What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is a heroic jerk, as he can be childish, selfish, and rude to his friends. His rudeness and immaturity are far too consistent in the show and they are not reformed.
- He is an anti-hero as he cares much more about freedom, doing whatever he wants and being a pirate than heroism. At one point, Luffy himself rejects the idea of being a hero and "sharing the meat with others", because he wants to be a pirate and "eat all the meat himself".
- He was fine with releasing some of the most dangerous criminals in the world from Impel Down if it meant rescuing Ace.
- His stupidity and recklessness led to multiple bad decisions which at times endangered his crew.
- Although he doesn't often give orders to his crewmates, when he makes decisions, he usually childishly refuses to listen to much more reasonable suggestions and the crew is basically forced to go along with his ideas.
- His decisions aren't based on logic and are often motivated by his impulsiveness and desire to seek adventure, resulting in crazy ideas that disregard the safety of his own crew. As when they have to decide where to go next, Luffy is always excited to go to the more dangerous locations, which leads to others in the crew to protest in terror.
