Proposition 8 (secara tidak resmi dijuluki Prop 8) adalah inisiatif referendum dan amendemen konstitusi negara bagian Kalifornia yang disetujui selama pemilihan umum negara bagian Kalifornia November 2008. Inisiatif ini diprakarsai oleh kelompok yang menentang pernikahan sesama jenis sebelum[2] dikeluarkannya keputusan In re Marriage Cases oleh Mahkamah Agung Kalifornia pada Mei 2008. Keputusan tersebut menyatakan bahwa pelarangan pernikahan sesama jenis dalam Proposition 22 tidak konstitusional. Proposition 8 pada akhirnya dinyatakan tidak konstitusional oleh mahkamah federal (dengan alasan yang berbeda) pada tahun 2010, walaupun keputusan pengadilan baru berlaku pada 26 Juni 2013. Dengan diberlakukannya keputusan tersebut, Gubernur Jerry Brown dapat meneruskan pernikahan sesama jenis di Kalifornia.[3]
