Ash Trees are mentioned once in the game, Dragons: Titan Uprising.
Description[]
Ash Trees make up the Genus Fraxinus, and are in the same taxonomic family as olives and lilacs. They are distributed throughout Europe, Central and North America, Asia, and Japan. They are one of the tree types that have 'helicopter' seeds - seed with a modified tissue wing that twirls around and can travel a short distance away in the wind from the parent tree, as opposed to just dropping straight down to the ground. The Common or European Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) occurs in Scandinavian countries and most likely the species encountered by Vikings.
Function[]
More mundane uses of the ash tree are as wood for building structures or objects such as musical instruments. Leaves and bark are occasionally used as a laxative and astringent in herbal medicine.
The ash tree is of particular importance in Norse Mythology, as the World Tree which ties the Nine Worlds together is said to be an ash tree. The very first human male in Norse beliefs was named "Askr", which directly translates to "ash tree".
In the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise, the ash tree does have some spiritual relevance, especially when combined with special symbols and even christened with dragon's breath.
