Herrschers (Chinese: 律者) are imaginary entities whose main purpose is to destroy humanity. Herrschers are implied to be mindless killing machines, till Elysia's interference, giving Current Era Herrschers the chance to retain their humanity.

As Honkai evolves alongside humanity, even the birth of a Herrscher isn't following conventional standards. They can be born inside humans with high Honkai resistance and adaptability, acting as their "2nd persona", taking over the host's body during any moment of weakness - until they take full control. A human can become corrupted enough by Honkai and hatred towards other humans to become a Herrscher, gaining the ability to connect to the Will of Honkai and forming a Herrscher Core within their body. A soul-less body can also become a Herrscher host as long as it is alive, allowing the Herrscher persona to take over the body with no resistance.

In their pursuit of the destruction of humanity, Herrschers will display an immense amount of power, enough to surpass even S-rank Valkyries, and unique abilities that are dependent on their cores or gems. Every Herrscher possesses control over a given concept they are named after, called their "Authority", which grants them supernatural abilities that revolve around the concept they are named after.

MOTH was the main human force against Honkai in the previous era. To grant humanity victory, the organization would create Divine Keys, weapons made from cores of defeated Herrschers. Following Herrscher of Flame's awakening, MOTHs would start transforming selected individuals into MANTIS, powerful supersoldiers with Honkai Beasts' genes.

Herrscher of Corruption is unique among the previous era's Herrschers in that it can exist outside its host body, moving and even attacking as nothing but a black mist. It was contained within a black box and, since its core could not be obtained, no Divine Key could be made from it. It shares this trait with the Final Herrscher, who could not be defeated or have its core extracted.

While most MANTIS have died by the time of the current era, Divine Keys created by MOTHs would survive the test of time.

The Current Era features Herrschers who are siding with humanity, an occurrence unheard of in the Previous Era. All known Herrschers, such as, Bronya Zaychik, Welt Joyce and Welt Yang as the Herrscher of Reason, Raiden Mei as the Herrscher of Thunder, Kiana Kaslana as the Herrscher of the Void and later the Herrscher of Flamescion are willing to actively use their Herrscher powers against the Honkai.

Pseudo-Herrscher[ | ]

In some cases, there are individuals who possess extremely high Honkai energy similar to a Herrscher, but do not possess their own Herrscher core, instead utilizing Stigmata.

Honkai energy from the Stigmata can infect their mind at any time.
Honkai Beast getting promoted also counted as Pseudo-Herrscher.

Yae Sakura: who was possessed by the 12th Herrscher of the old world. She gave the Stigmata to Theresa in "Escape from Nagazora" comic, destroying her body.

The three Pseudo-Herrscher are the old friends of Sirin who died in the Babylon experiments, but were returned to existence after the 1st Herrscher's core was captured. They were then given fake cores constructed from Herrscher of Reason's power to become Pseudo-Flame, Pseudo-Wind, and Pseudo-Death Herrscher.

Aphora[ | ]

One of three Babylon experimental subjects resurrected by Sirin, she was given pseudo-Herrscher core of Wind, possessing the ability of the Wind Herrscher, and was ordered to destroy in Finland-Oulu, bringing more power to Sirin.

Agata[ | ]

One of three Babylon experimental subjects resurrected by Sirin, she was given the pseudo-Herrscher core of Fire, possessing the ability of the Fire Herrscher, and was ordered to destroy in Kazakhstan-Astana, bringing more power to Sirin.

Galina[ | ]

One of three Babylon experimental subjects resurrected by Sirin, she was given a pseudo-Herrscher core of Death, possessing the ability of the Death Herrscher, and was ordered to destroy in Russia-Novosibirsk, bringing more power to Sirin.

Composite Herrscher[ | ]

An occurrence unheard of in the Previous Era, the composite Herrschers are existing Herrschers who inherited another Herrscher's core and exercise either its authority or new powers created by combining its authority their own.

NOTE: Existing Herrschers possessing dormant or borrowed cores are not of this category, and the unique nature of Herrscher of Finality makes her unsuited to this categorization.

Herrscher of Rimstar[ | ]

Born when Ana Schariac/Herrscher of Ice inherited the core of Herrscher of Stars, possessing the ability of Stars that can control and manipulate gravity.

Herrscher of Flamescion[ | ]

Born when Kiana Kaslana/Herrscher of the Void inherited the core of Herrscher of Flame, possessing the ability of Flame that can accelerate atoms at high speeds to generate massive amounts of heat and explosions.

Herrscher powers can be infused with normal equipment, as Kiana has done with ARC Serratus.
Fenghuang Pinions and Incredibly Infinite Intimidator were created with Herrscher powers by the Herrscher of Sentience.
Herrscher is German, translating as "ruler" or "sovereign".
In Chinese, Kiana as Herrscher of the Void (Chinese: 律化娜 Lǜ huà nà) has the same pronunciation as NaCl (Chinese: 氯化钠), the formula of sodium chloride (salt).
