The Alchemy Commission is one of six commissions in the Xianzhou Alliance.

Description[]

Temperament and spirit fuse, as the dead springs back to life.
The Alchemy Commission is responsible for biological and medical research. It is said that in ancient times, the ancestors of Xianzhou natives were not immortal. In order to be free from the three sufferings of old age, sickness, and death, they set sail to seek divine medicine. After gaining immortality, the Alchemy Commission used the miracle left by the Aeon to demonstrate the way of immortality. But now, the Alchemy Commission is in decline, and finally became a place where Outworlders seek medical treatment.

Profile[]

The Alchemy Commission is responsible for biological and medical research. In ancient times, the ancestors of Xianzhou natives were not immortal. In order to be free from the three sufferings of old age, sickness, and death, they set sail to seek divine medicine. After gaining immortality, the Alchemy Commission used the Ambrosial Arbor left by the Yaoshi to demonstrate the way of immortality. Due to this, the Alchemy Commission has long had ties to the abundance. Now, however, the Commission is in decline, and has become a place where Outworlders seek medical treatment. They are now chiefly responsible for healing the people of Xianzhou and gathering case studies and medical papers. They have apothecaries around the Xianzhou.

The Alchemy Commission also has the authority over medical qualifications on the Xianzhou and holds alchemist exams. Even independent medical practitioners such as Little Tian are subject to their authority and can force them to resit their alchemist exams in the case of suspected fraudulent medical practices. The Commission also licenses medicines to these businesses, such as Longevity Hall and Lingling's Medicine Stand.[1] Some members take up the role of military healers such as Jiaoqiu, Lingsha, and Yufei, and may accompany Cloud Knights onto the battlefield and assist them in places such as field hospitals.[2]

Medical Practices[]

Licensed medicines include Health Detox Pill, Jade Marrow Diffusion, and Extract of Medicinal Herbs. Additional prescriptions from the Alchemy Commission include Stone Calf Cimicifugae Infusion, Clear-Head Flowing-Meridian Infusion, Salvation and Rebirth Pellet, Karmic Salvation Infusion, and Soul-Returning Vitality Infusion. The Longevity Pill of Cruelty is a medicine exclusive to the Xianzhou Yaoqing.

Yabruh and Tumbledust

Yabruh and Tumbledust extract.

An extract called "Tumbledust" from an exotic flower named "Yabruh" is used by the Alchemy Commission on patients during surgery. A tiny dose can numb the body's senses and alleviate any sensation of pain during surgery, making them painless throughout the entire process. Some of the Cloud Knights use pellets which contain trace amounts of this ingredient to block pain on the battlefield. However, increasing the dose or the potency will slow metabolism, making the blood thin and resulting in the loss of all senses. Even long-life species cannot escape its effects.[3]

The General's Di Huang Drink was a medication that was still undergoing clinical trial that would help Vidyadhara that do not grow up from their infantile stage and suffer from delayed development. If no results emerged after a year, the prescription was to be considered invalid and abandoned. Though there were no toxic side effects, it was strictly forbidden to widely apply this medication before Bailu confirmed its efficacy.[4]

Ranzhi School[]

The Ranzhi School is a medicinal school on the Xianzhou Yaoqing that specializes in food therapy. In the Ranzhi School's medical theory, medicine is food, and vice versa, believing that the right food for the right ailments would naturally cure oneself.[3][5] Medicinal food ingredients used by this school include hot pot, soup, fish, steak, rice, lotus flowers, green mushrooms, silver needle tea leaves, snow lotus roots, and more.

A concoction made with a tael of euphorbia, three mace of bitterwood, and four cash of desert cistanche, boiled with big bones, then paired with deep sea shellfish to dispel the bitter flavor, can aid one in achieving peaceful slumber. Fish such as white loach and threadfin snapper, with their constitution-warming properties, are great for nourishing the qi and blood. The slices need only be dipped in boiling water for two to three seconds. Certain foods could also increase one's physical capabilities.[6] Jiaoqiu, a practitioner of this school, invented a cauldron-based medicinal formula known as the "nine-square grid."[7]

Piercing Gaze Sect[]

Piercing Gaze is a healing art of the Xianzhou Zhuming that uses specialist medical treatments such as acupuncture, aromatherapy, and pyropathy.[8] Only by using this incense burner can one practice this art with ease. It can be used to purge evil from the soldiers of the Zhuming when the connection between a person and a heliobus becomes unstable.[9] The Zhuming's sleeping powder and flame ambergris, mixed with sunset cinders, make an incense called "Forget All Worries," which can be used to calm anxiety.[10]

Sacred Branch is made from tuskpir horn, which is actually a clump of excrement, and can be burned as incense to calm the mind. Spirit-Soothe Powder is also made from pulverized tuskpir horn, plus other ingredients. Though rich in minerals, it is toxic if overdosed.[11] Practitioners and researchers of this art include the Zhuming's high elder, Ardens Regia, and their student, the Luofu's Cauldron Master, Lingsha.[12] Lingsha can also diagnose illnesses due to her acute sense of smell.[13] The Zhuming's Alchemy Commission compiled the book, Achievements in Alchemy [sic], a comprehensive summary of alchemical prescriptions and their smelting and refinement techniques. The book is used as a textbook in the academy.[14]

Politics[]

The Vidyadhara and the Alchemy Commission on the Xianzhou Luofu have always been intricately connected.[15] During the events of the Ambrosial Arbor Crisis, many members of the Luofu's Alchemy Commission were also found to have ties to the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus, including the Commission's Chief Alchemist Dan Shu. An investigation by the Ten-Lords Commission later found that the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus had been operating within the Alchemy Commission for years.[16] In the aftermath of the incident, Dan Shu was replaced by Yuluo as Chief Alchemist.[17][18] Furthermore, Lingsha was directly appointed by the higher-ups of the Xianzhou Alliance to serve as the Luofu Alchemy Commission’s new Cauldron Master and purge the Commission of its corruption.[19]

History[]

After receiving the Ambrosial Arbor, the Alchemy Commission was once the Luofu's most vital commission. It was they who changed the Xianzhou natives into long-life species. They also developed many incredible technologies from the tree itself. The Salvation and Rebirth Pellet was developed during the era when the Ambrosial Arbor first started to grow. Its main ingredient is the sprouts of the Ambrosial Arbor.[20] They erected elixir crucibles in the Alchemy Commission to absorb the power of the Arbor, turning fantasy into reality. Since the smoke from the crucibles never ceases, the place was named Evemist Mansion. However, the alchemists soon grew discontented and began to obsess over the manipulation of life. Research into the Arbor poisoned their minds, and the more they pursued it, the more they longed for it.[21]

In Year 3400 of the Star Calendar, the Reignbow Arbiter destroyed the Ambrosial Arbor, and it was discarded by the people as they began to worship The Hunt. The Alchemy Commission then underwent a profound transformation, though its members never stopped investigating the Arbor's remains.[20] Despite this, the Luofu failed to re-allocate power from the Alchemy Commission to other organizations, as well as to monitor and correct the behavior of its members. These oversights would lay the foundation for the crisis surrounding the Arbor's resurrection in the Year 8100.[16]

In approximately Year 6610 of the Star Calendar, the Luofu Alchemy Commission's Elixir Research Terrace was conducting an inventory of its books when they discovered the Scripture of Yellow Pneuma Yang Essence in their collection by pure accident. The Alchemy Commission at the time sank into intense debate regarding whether this book should be destroyed. In the end, Baize, the Luofu's Cauldron Master, opted for middle ground: The original copy would be destroyed, but the content will be reproduced and sealed away. Only the Cauldron Master of the Alchemy Commission, the chief healer, the chief alchemist, the lead medical assistant, and any officials ranked higher than these positions may consult this book as a historical reference.[22]

In Year 6652 of the Star Calendar, Baize, Cauldron Master of the Alchemy Commission, altered the two components of draconic liquorice and steadfast teeth, replacing them with extracts of cloud poria grown on the Yaoqing and rock salt crystals from Insumousu respectively.[20]

Around the Year 8072, during the Third War of Abundance, Jiaoqiu retired from his position as military healer after the massive amount of casualties suffered from the Verdant Knights in order to run Rainsoar Eatery, though he would soon return after Feixiao's appointment as Arbiter-General.[23] Around this time, Luofu Cauldron Master Yunhua was exiled to the Zhuming for using healing arts to restore Dan Heng's past life memories as Dan Feng. Her student Lingsha accompanied her to the Zhuming and studied under Ardens Regia, eventually becoming a military healer for a period of time.[12]

Meanwhile, the chief alchemist was appointed as the acting head of the Alchemy Commission of the Luofu. Chief alchemist Dan Shu, who's best friend Yufei perished during the Reignbow Arbiter's bombardment in the Third Abundance War, eventually joined the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus and spread the faction's influence within the Luofu Alchemy Commission.[16] She used her newfound authority to make previously forbidden and unique medical texts such as Key Tenets of Long-Life, Scripture of Yellow Pneuma Yang Essence, Yaoshi's Manual of Viscerals, An Investigation of Luofu Prescriptions, Collection of Health-Preservation Methods, and Plaguemark Research available for review.[24]

In approximately Year 8100 Star Calendar, the Ambrosial Arbor was revived using the power of a Stellaron that was smuggled aboard the Luofu. During the events of this crisis, many members of the Alchemy Commission were found to have ties to the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus, including the Commission's Chief Alchemist Dan Shu. A later investigation by the Ten-Lords Commission revealed an atmosphere permeated by nostalgia for past authority and status within the Commission, coupled with discontent with the current status quo, and a sympathy toward Sanctus Medicus even among the Commission's innocent members. A thorough examination of the Alchemy Commission's documents spanning several years also found that Dan Shu may have been conspiring with suspected Vidyadhara Preceptors for unknown reasons.[16]

Since the incident, Yuluo had taken over the chief alchemist position and Lingsha had been directly appointed by the higher-ups of the Xianzhou Alliance to serve as the Luofu Alchemy Commission’s new Cauldron Master as of August 2, 8100 Star Calendar and purge the Commission of its corruption.[19] She arrived on the Luofu during the Luminary Wardance Ceremony and, upon taking up her position, ordered the forbidden books confiscated from the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus to be brought to the Divination Commission repository for sealing.[25][26]

  • Chat: The Luofu Alchemy Commission From my point of view, the fundamental problem with the Alchemy Commission is internal strife. The healers and alchemists are not earnest about curing sickness, nor are they wholly interested in academic research. Their only concern is the struggle for power. How should we attend to the Disciples who slipped through the cracks and the scheming Preceptors?
  • Annoyances I am just a healer, and I've always hated those who play political games. But if you want to gain a foothold in the Alchemy Commission, you must have some means to stop those who abuse their power.
