This article is about The Sarajevo Six organization. For the bonus contracts, see The Sarajevo Six. |
The SIGMA Unit, better known as The Sarajevo Six, were war criminals that worked as private military contractors for the CICADA corporation. The group was notorious for committing atrocities during the Siege of Sarajevo, including the mass murder of civilians, and successfully avoided military tribunals for decades.
All six members appear as targets in The Sarajevo Six bonus contracts, featured only in the Playstation 4 version of HITMAN™. They returned in HITMAN™ III on all platforms on August 17th 2023 as a paid DLC.
Background[]
While working for the CICADA private military corporation, the SIGMA Unit were heavily involved in the Siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War. Under the leadership of Scott Sarno, SIGMA became notorious for the war crimes the group had committed, which ranged from the mass murder of civilians, the killing of police officers and the disappearance of individuals. By their own admission, the six had no particular ideology or political motivation to carry out these acts, they were solely driven by money.
Things came to a close during late 1995. While operating near the city of Sestopolje, they learned of a convoy transporting gold out of Belgrade under the guise of a refugee column. The SIGMA unit attacked the convoy, stole the gold and called in helicopter gunships to kill any survivors. Each member of SIGMA received millions, to the cost of six trucks worth of refugees.
The SIGMA unit disbanded shortly after. The Six largely went their separate ways; some members elected to stay with CICADA, some took their expertise elsewhere and others simply retired to enjoy their fortune.
Targeted by the International Contract Agency[]
Some time after SIGMA disbanded, Taheiji Koyama, a member of the unit, was filled with deep remorse and guilt over the actions committed by him and his colleagues during the war. He spent his life using his fortune to support victims of war crimes until he was made aware of the International Contract Agency by an old friend of his, Locksley. While he was not the only member of the Sarajevo Six who was regretful - John Stubbs was planning on documenting their crimes in a book - he believed all six, including himself, deserved death. Taheiji became a client for the ICA and placed six contracts in total, one for each member of the Sarajevo Six.
Agent 47 was tasked with the elimination of all six targets. He first travelled to Paris and eliminated Scott Sarno, the former leader of SIGMA, and then to Sapienza to eliminate Gary Lunn. While the assassinations were perfectly executed, the former colleagues kept in touch with one another and the disappearances of two of members did not go unnoticed. As each target was eliminated, the remaining members would become more paranoid.
Following the death of the last of his former colleagues, Taheiji Koyama suddenly fell ill, due to Elyen's Syndrome, a genetic disorder he was suffering from. While he had previously been refusing treatment, he believed he would not live to see his life be taken by the ICA, and so sought treatment at the GAMA facility in Hokkaido to extend what little remained with his life. Unlike the other contracts, the contract set against himself had an additional objective; retrieving the SIGMA operations files from GAMA. The contract stipulated that the files should be widely publicized following his death, so the world would know of what they and CICADA did.
After the elimination of Taheiji and the retrieval of the files, Diana Burnwood pieces together why he placed the contracts against not just himself but the other Sarajevo Six members too and informs 47, though both were in agreement that the files going public would achieve very little and be largely ignored.

Trivia[]
- All missions that feature members of the Sarajevo Six are among the few pieces of content from HITMAN™ that did not return in HITMAN™ 2's HITMAN™ Legacy Pack downloadable content.
- This includes the Playstation 4 version of HITMAN™ 2.
- According to dialogue in The Veteran, the order the Sarajevo Six were targeted in was based on their rank within the team, in descending order. The exception to this is Taheiji Koyama, who was ranked above at least John Stubbs.
- As the client who placed the contracts against the six, Taheiji likely wanted to ensure that all of his former colleagues were assassinated before he himself was killed.
