The Ark Society is a clandestine organization that consists of extremely rich and powerful people preparing for a global collapse.

Description[]

ArkSocietyHQ Sgail

The Ark Society's headquarters on Sgàil.

Founded by Janus in 1991, the Ark Society is a so-called survivalist group for the global elite and billionaires preparing for the downfall of civilization; its members are willing to pay huge sums of money to ensure their own survival. Here, plans are made for the construction of bunkers and redoubts capable of surviving various global disasters. Ark Society members and prospective members are all extremely wealthy and powerful individuals, part of the global elite. The Society is directed by two chairpersons (currently the Washington sisters) and a council of five original founding members.

While the Ark Society includes many Providence affiliates and is even used as a recruiting venue for future members, not everyone in the Ark Society is necessarily aware that Providence exists - for example, Sophia Washington assumes that Ark Society co-founder Jebediah Block doesn't know about Providence, and only makes vague allusions to them while trying to convince him to vote in favor of her green energy initiative.

Their headquarters is located in an old castle on the mysterious Isle of Sgàil somewhere in the North Atlantic Ocean near the Orkney Islands of Scotland, where the society gathers annually to showcase new survival products, initiatives, and pseudoscientific breakthroughs. Their current project, on display in the upper levels, is a plan to construct a series of domed fortified self-sufficient Arctic cities. The Society's Architects, world-class engineers and scientists, are tasked with designing and constructing these complexes. In a conversation with Jebediah Block, Arthur Edwards notes with some irony that these isolated facilities, with their relatively small populations, no need for money and minimal hierarchy, would be almost communistic.

Trivia[]

  • The society first appears in HITMAN™ 2, and 47 must infiltrate their gathering in the game's final mission, The Ark Society, in order to eliminate the Washington twins and extract the Constant.
  • The society is mentioned in The Farewell, the penultimate mission of HITMAN™ III; the target's brother, Zachary Yates is confirmed to be a lawyer for them, in addition to other connections. According to two NPCs, Frederick Engelhorn, Janus' original pick for chairman, is once again considered to lead in the aftermath of the twins' deaths, but Blake Nathaniel is also expected to run for chairman.
  • The society is mentioned to have a seven-figure initiation fee for new members.
  • The society is known to collect priceless pieces of art and historical artifacts in case of a global disaster. Notable artifacts in the society's possession include the Mona Lisa and the "Cloud Serpent", a Aztec necklace which previously belonged to Montezuma II. Sophia Washington is deeply involved in these efforts.
  • The society has a initiation ritual in which various "initiates" must find several coins hidden throughout the island grounds. The first of these "initiates" to collect enough tokens, undergoes a private screening interview with Zoe Washington where they are then subjected to a polygraph and electro-shock torture (a new and controversial practice that the Washingtons had only recently introduced).
  • During On Top of the World, when Carl Ingram and Marcus Stuyvesant wait for Omar Al-Ghazali in the penthouse, Ingram mentions that he didn't have any involvement or interest in the Ark Society, calling it "that preposterous island gathering of Edwards'", and that he "never did like the twins". Despite his dismissive attitude towards the organization, overheard conversations on Sgail indicate that space in various Ark Society survival projects was set aside for all three of the Partners, including him.
  • The Ark societies "Stronghold" facility is mentioned to be located 40 feet beneath the island of Svalbard and comes equipped with bars, restaurants, a movie theater, and a exercise stadium as well as individual shelters for each of the facilities residents. The individual shelters are categorized into three classes: the Gold class, the Platinum class, and the Super-Deluxe Rhodium class. Prices for these shelters start at 99 million.
