Synopsis for "Deal of the Century"
Kenyan puts a gun to Emp’s head but disbelieves that Emp actually wants to die. Inside the casino, Noir and Spartan pull Grifter from the rubble of the explosion and leave through a back alley. Spartan informs Grifter he has located Emp. Emp recounts how, decades ago, he found Kenyan on the streets and made him immortal in a genetic experiment. Kenyan became Emp’s mortal enemy, a criminal and terrorist who worked with the Daemonites. He battled Team One, killing their member Mason, and years later fought the WildC.A.T.s. In preparation for his ascension as a Kherubim lord, Emp cut himself off from his past except for his conflict with Kenyan. Once again, he exhorts Kenyan to kill him, but Kenyan hesitates. Grifter arrives with Noir and Spartan and points his gun at Kenyan. Kenyan responds by taking Emp hostage. Realizing Emp’s plan, Spartan disarms Grifter. Emp tries again to goad Kenyan into killing him, but Kenyan kills himself instead. Emp reveals that he cannot ascend on his own; someone has to kill him, but the ensuing release of energy is lethal. He wanted Kenyan to do it so he could eliminate the threat Kenyan posed. Now, realizing Spartan is nearly indestructible, Emp asks Spartan to kill him. Over Grifter’s protest, Spartan agrees, and Emp vanishes in a burst of energy. Afterward, Grifter stands stunned as Spartan flies away.
