Zhizhu is a supporting protagonist in the Amazon serie Kung Fu Panda Paws of Destiny. He is the guardian of Wellspring and a good friend of the four constellations.
He is voiced by Jeff Bennett.
Biography[]
Zhizhu encounters Nu Hai, Bao, Fan Tong and Jing as they wander the tunnels in hopes of escaping Panda Village after it was taken over by Jindiao. Recognizing the children as pandas, Zhizhu demanded the password otherwise he would be forced to eat them. When Bao gave an incorrect one, Zhizhu then identified himself as a weapon of the Four Constellations and attacked them. Despite the children putting up a fight, he managed to incapacitate him with his webbing. But before he could eat them, Fan Tong cut himself free with a red chi sword and freed the others. The children then identified themselves as the new Four Constellations, prompting a mortified Zhizhu to place himself at their service.
As Zhizhu guided the Four Constellations through the tunnels, he remarked at how the pandas had forgotten their sacred charge as guardians of the Wellspring and adds that the Four Constellations were also its protectors. He then brought them to the exit, which was in fact the Temple of the Four Constellations, where Jindiao was presently. Zhizhu then fought the Poison Clan to buy time for the children to escape.
Afterwards, Zhizhu traveled to Panda Village, unintentionally causing a panic due to his monstrous appearance. Thankfully, Li calmed the villagers down by pointing out that Zhizhu wasn't doing any harm, as was evidenced by the giant spider playing with the panda babies. Zhizhu then informed the pandas and Mr. Ping that they need to keep the Wellspring from Jindiao, explaining that millennia ago, the pandas were great masters of chi fueled by the Wellspring. But when Jindiao turned to evil and was defeated by the Four Constellations, the Wellspring was sealed away, causing the pandas to lose their connection as well as making them generally forget their noble heritage.
After this, Zhizhu began teaching pandas how to use their chi. When Ping said that Jindiao captured Po and the constellations, Zhizhu used his thread to help the pandas get into the temple of the four constellations, and also fought with the pandas against Jindiao's minions.
When Jindiao returned to his dragon form and tried to fly away from the temple, Zhizhu shot his web at Jindiao's tail trying to stop him, but Jindiao was able to hit him several times. Afterwards, Zhizhu helped the pandas get out of the temple unnoticed, and then hid the spirit urn. During the battle, Zhizhu helped Po get onto Jindiao's back.
After Jindiao returned to the mortal world, Zhizhu threw stones at him.
While in the temple of the four constellations, Zhizhu learned about the oddities, after which he went to the panda village, telling the two pandas that he needed to see Master Po and the children, to which they replied that Po and the constellations had left, after which Zhizhu told about the oddities of Li Shan.
When Li Shan fell from the cliff, Zhizhu caught him with his web. After which Zhizhu, Li, Grandma Panda and Ping descended into the underground mines, where during the battle with the emperor's guards there was a rockfall, as a result of which the heroes had to go without Zhizhu.
After The Wellspring spread all over the world giving everyone chi, Zhizhu reported this, also saying that for this he’s out of the job and will now look for his soul mate.
Personnality[]
When he is first introduced, Zhizhu appears to be scary and fierce due to his large size. However, he is actually compassionate, friendly, and wise despite his scary appearance; an example of his friendly nature is when Zhizhu playfully interacts with the Panda Village children.
Also, despite the fact that Zhizhu tried to eat the four constellations, he really did not want to do it and was forced to do so because the rules required and he could not break them.
