Why did you do it?
~ A cryptic message directed towards Bill, presumably by Scalene and Euclid
ROCK-A-BYE BILLY
PLEASE DON'T YOU CRY
IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT
YOU HAVE THAT STRANGE EYE
STAY SAFE WITH MOMMY
YOU'LL NEVER FALL
AND WE'LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU
SHARP ANGLES AND ALL
~ A coded lullaby from Bill's parents to him, assuring him they'll always love him

Scalene and Euclid are minor characters in the Gravity Falls franchise. They are ancient residents of the now-extinct Euclidean Dimension who were the parents of the main antagonist, Bill Cipher. While they deeply cared for their son and tried to help him fit in, they were massacred along with the rest of their race when Bill tried to show them the third dimension, killing them all by accident.

Appearance[]

While they're never seen directly as all pictures of them are either blurred out or staticky, it's known that Scalene and Euclid both had triangular bodies similar to their son. One of them, presumably Euclid, wore a top hat and it's assumed that they're red and blue based on contextual clues from Bill's patient files.

Personality[]

Although never seen, their personalities can be picked up through various context clues. They loved their son unconditionally and would try to protect him as he was insecure about his mutated eye, which would cause others to either ostracize and bully him. They had good intentions of wanting to cut off Bill's ability to aww the third dimension, knowing well that any mention of said dimension was banned in Euclidean. Unfortunately, Bill took this the wrong way, viewing this action as them trying to "snuff out his talents."

Biography[]

Scalene and Euclid's early lives are unknown but they existed trillions of years before the present in the second dimension known as Euclydia. It is implied they were a family of royalty and that the father was the mayor.

They gave birth to Bill one trillion and 12 years before the present, who would end up being born with a rare mutation that allowed him to see the third dimension. While Bill was insecure, the mother would sing him lullabies to comfort him while he was outcasted for his mutation. Assuming the father was the mayor gave out free knives for his birthday and dubbed him the "Best Baby of all Time" (implying the father was the mayor.)

They would try to keep Bill's abilities suppressed out of parental concern, giving him medication to suppress his visions of the third dimension which they'd have to administer via silly straws thanks to Bill's pickiness. Unfortunately, Bill would accidentally kill them along with every single member of his race and his universe during the Euclydian Massacre, causing him to descend into evil in an attempt to forget about this crime and bury his feelings.

Despite their deaths, they still speak through Bill somehow in their language, with implications they are still somehow alive inside of Bill, while warning the reader about him in The Book of Bill as well as trying to talk sense into their son over his action.

Quotes[]

Two dimensions two and fro
You always now which way to go
If you're lost don't be afraid
In Euclydia you've got it made
Run too far too right of frame
You'll appear on left again
Jump too high don't cry or fret
You'll pop from the ground I bet
In this space there is no fear
Loved ones will be near
Roles and rules always clear
Euclydia we hold you dear
~ The Euclidean anthem possibly spoken by one of the parents.
Shhh, little Billy wore Velcro until he was sixteen. He said shoelaces were fascist, but we think he just couldn't figure out how to tie them.
~ An unknown person talking about Bill's wardrobe, presumably one of his parents.

Trivia[]

  • They speak in Color Ciphers, which frequently appears throughout the Book of Bill and thisisnotawebsite.com, strongly insinuating they are alive through Bill in some way.
  • As one of Bill's parents (possibly Euclid) is wearing his iconic top hat, it's possible that Bill's hat is a keepsake from his parents and a memento he keeps of them. However, it is also worth noting in the show, the hat is shown to be part of Bill's anatomy when Stanford shoots it, implying that Euclydians can choose to incorporate parts of their clothing into their bodies.
  • Seeing as Euclid is named after the dimension they live in, it's possible that Bill's family was royalty thanks to the significance of this name or that Euclid is just a popular name in Euclydia.
  • It is implied that their colors are blue and red, as the Theraprism files mention that Bill has an obsession with cutting pieces of blue and red paper triangles during his therapy. However, it's left to interpretation which parent is which color.
  • It is heavily implied the father is the Mayor given how he personally dubs Bill the "Best Baby of All Time" and how he has the same name as his dimension (possibly indicating the Dimension is named after him.)
  • It is possible Scalene is the female/mother Euclidean, as her name is similar to female names like Pauline or even Celine.
