~ Lilith Aensland |
Lilith Aensland is a character from Darkstalkers and is the soul fragment of Morrigan Aensland. She is a 1/3 of an incomplete soul and she was originally an anti-villain, later, anti-heroine of the series and was merged with Morrigan. A young cheerful demon, she is cute and adorable, but deadly underneath.
She is not a pure evil villain and was manipulated by a demon called Jedah into doing his commands. His plan was for her to fuse with her source, so he could defeat them both and use their merged state to become more powerful. However, at some point Lilith knew he was lying to her and only agreed to meet her sister. Lilith often complained about Jedah "chaining her to the darkness."
None of the fights in Darkstalkers 3 have been confirmed to be canon except for the fight between Morrigan and Lilith. It is never confirmed who won. Morrigan fused with her, allowing her to continue her existence with her. According to an interview with Capcom, both her and Morrigan are the "real personality" and the two personalities fuse and co-exist.
She was voiced by Hiroko Konishi in the Darkstalkers series, and Miyuki Sawashiro in Onimusha Soul.
In Cross Edge, she was voiced by the former Yuka Imai in the Japanese version, and by Stephanie Sheh in the English version, the former who also voiced the character in Namco X Capcom.
Appearance[]
Lilith sports a red and blue suit with red and green wings, red shoes, and lavender-lilac hair. She is a physical copy of Morrigan but with notable differences such as shorter hair, smaller stature, a diamond cut-out in place of a heart and different colors.
About Lilith's Gender[]
Physically, she is a female. The body she received from Jedah was the image that Lilith wanted to be, obviously an imitation of Morrigan. But it is obvious that she couldn't be a complete copy of Morrigan. Although it is a guess, her childish look most likely comes from her own feelings. She feels that she is not a perfect existence, and this reflected on her appearance. Like a child who yearns to be an adult, a girl who has yet to become a woman. But there is no evidence if she could maintain that body. If she wishes to be something, as long as Jedah's power is intact, she could even become a man. If she wishes to become one with Morrigan, she could even take the form of a man to be the dominant one. But a vast amount of power and belief is needed to do this. And it would be very difficult without the help of Jedah.
Role in the Vs. series[]
In the Vs. series, Lilith appears in Morrigan's intro appearance and in her Silhouette Blade attack. She is also a secret playable character and is an alternate palette of Morrigan in the first MvC game. She mind-swaps with Morrigan, where she is constantly called Morrilith or Liligan by the fans playing the game.
In Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds and its update, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, a shadowy figure of Lilith appears in Morrigan's Shadow Servant Hyper Combo, same to Silhouette Blade, except Morrigan summons her own wings rather than Lilith herself.
She also appears as Morrigan's fifth alternate color in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, where she has a similar fighting role in the game and also makes a cameo appearance in Morrigan's ending.
In Tastunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, Lilith appears in Morrigan's Darkness Illusion Hyper Combo, mimicking her infinite supply of punches and kicks before kicking the opponent to the ground in the finale.

Trivia[]
- She makes various cameo and playable appearances in various crossover games in addition to her first playable appearance being Darkstalkers 3.
- Lilith, during her development, was intended to be the half-angel sister of Morrigan who could have possibly been called Genevieve.
- Later on, when she received the design closer to what she is now she was either planned to be a crossdressing male or intersex.
- Lilith’s official gender when Vampire Savior was released was listed as unknown. As a clone of Morrigan she was seen as female by many people. Many thought she was also supposed to be a real succubus. But her gender and species were meant to be vague as a split soul with an artificial form.
- With enough willpower and the help of Jedah, she can even become a man. This is most likely different from becoming an incubus as incubi and succubi are two different species in the Darkstalkers lore.
- Contrary to popular belief, Lilith is not canonically named Lilith Aensland and is just named Lilith.
- In the manga Vampire Savior, Lilith is a portion of Morrigan's power given flesh. She ends up on Earth, befriending a human painter and living with him. She is ditzy but means well.
- Lilith was never directly stated to be the sister of Morrigan or daughter of Jedah canonically, it is unknown if she even has a sense or knowledge of family, but because of her origins and how she wouldn't exist the way she does without them, it is often something fans will call her. Not all fans agree with that interpretation and may just see Morrigan and Lilith as the "same person" and Jedah as just her boss.
- Belial can technically be seen as both Lilith's adoptive and birth father, as not only is she part of the soul of his adopted daughter, but he is also responsible for splitting their soul in the first place and without him Lilith would not exist. Whether one views Morrigan and Lilith as siblings or not, they at least would share a dad and are now fused into one singular person again.
- Morrigan, Lilith and Jedah were all planned to be siblings with each other, but this idea was scrapped. Morrigan and Lilith have been called sisters in the separate canon of the Marvel vs. Capcom games.
- There is an even rarer interpretation from fans that Morrigan is Lilith's mother due to the fact that Lilith was born from her soul and is her source.
