Liu Xie, also known as Emperor Xian, is a supporting character in the 14th-century Chinese classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by the late Luo Guanzhong, and its multiple adaptations. He is the last emperor of Han Dynasty who is the younger son of Emperor Ling and an younger brother of Emperor Shao.

Biography[]

By the falling of Emperor Ling, Emperor Shao taking the throne as his brother, Liu Xie was appointing as the Prince of Chenliu. He then escaping with his brother because He Jin is assassination and the Ten Eunuchs are dead. Back to the royal palace, Liu Xie later encountering Dong Zhuo, a governor who depose Emperor Shao and seized the capital of Han Dynasty, he will making his requested to placing him of the throne as Emperor Xian. Upon Cao Cao arrived in Luoyang, he plans to kill the tyrant, which actually failing to flees. Under the manipulation of Dong Zhuo, Emperor Xian is a bit jealous puppeting ruler, when he forcing to Chang'an, causing the warlord abandon Luoyang and to be killed.

After Dong Zhuo's death, Emperor Xian was blackmailing by Li Jue and Guo Si, which also fall into their hands. By Yang Biao and Zhu Jun were aiding, he eventually fleeing from Li Jue and Guo Si, as Cao Cao arriving to escorted him to the imperial capital of Xuchang. As Lu Bu appearing to ambushed, Cao Cao defeat him which he could able to lets the emperor safe, until with the cachet. In the ways, Emperor Xian meets Liu Bei, so whom he turned out that was his uncle by decent. He was pressed by Cao Cao and joining in an imperial prejudiced for its, shot a deer with the bow of him. Upon his result, the emperor was taking out for the shooting, which makes everybody shout to be congratulations.

Cao Cao was surprising, he pushed the emperor into the background. While wrong to have disrespect, Emperor Xian planning to leads his father-in-law, Dong Cheng, to slaying Cao Cao as he marry Lady Dong, make her to be his wife. However, the plans was exposed, Cao Cao would annoying to kill the emperor's spouse. Emperor Xian later marrying Fu Shou, the empress who is the daughter of Fu Wan, realizing that Lady Dong's death had been caused by Cao Cao. She writes her father a letter blaming Cao Cao's brutality, asked her father to begins set up a new plans to against him. The plot was once again to failed, the empress then banned and died.

Soon as possible, Cao Cao makes his daughter, Cao Jie to marriage of Emperor Xian. However, Emperor Xian also becomes Cao Cao's son-in-law, he took the busy to making his own wealth, lived together with his currently wife. When Cao Cao died, the emperor declared to appointed Cao Cao's son, Cao Pi as the Prince of Wei. At same year, Cao Pi deposing Emperor Xian which he destroyed Han Dynasty and establishing the kingdom of Wei. Aftermath of this, Cao Pi will becoming the emperor of Wei, Emperor Xian was made the Duke of Shanyang, leaves and moving to the territory with his wife. Later in the life, the emperor is dead upon Cao Rui takes place on the throne as the new emperor of Wei.

Emperor Xian appears as a major character in the 2010 TV adaptation, Three Kingdoms. He was portrayed by Xiao Dingdong as an child, and by Luo Jin as an adult. He also appears as a minor character in the 2021 film, Dynasty Warriors, based on the video game series of the same name.

Anime and Manga[]

Emperor Xian served as a supporting character in the 1991-1992 Yokoyama Mitsuteru Sangokushi anime-series.
