This is my world. Although it can only exist for one night like yours, there is no world I cannot make.

When everything's over, let's come here again, Shiki! It won't have any meaning, but I'm sure it will be really, really fun!
~ Arcueid Brunestud

Arcueid Brunestud is the titular deuteragonist of the Tsukihime franchise.

She is the princess of the True Ancestors, a race of powerful vampiric beings, and is the successor of the Crimson Moon. She enlist the help of Shiki Tohno to hunt down and destroy her sworn enemy Roa.

She is voiced by Ryoka Yuzuki in Melty Blood and Carnival Phantasm, while in the anime adaptation, she is voiced by Hitomi Nabatame in Japanese and Michelle Ruff in English (the latter also voices Rukia Kuchiki from Bleach). In Tsukihime: -A piece of blue glass moon- and Melty Blood: Type Lumina, she is voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa, who voiced Desumi Magahara in Love After World Domination.

Appearance[]

Arcueid is a beautiful woman who has the appearance of teenager around 16-17, despite being far older. She has short, golden blonde hair and piercing crimson red eyes. Her signature outfit consists of a white turtleneck sweater, a long purple skirt, black pantyhose and black boots. In the remake, Arcueid now wears a blue pleated miniskirt and a silver necklace.

As Archetype: Earth, Arcueid's hair becomes more long and flowing. She also wears a gorgeous, opulent dress, the inside of which is rather corset-like.

Personality[]

Arcueid Brunestud is a very cheerful, bubbly, whimsical and free-spirited individual who behaves in a happy-go-lucky and childish manner. Due to her lonely upbringing, Arcueid is extremely naïve and antisocial, knowing nearly nothing about the world or how to interact with others and is very ignorant of social norms, which often leads to her misreading the room.

Initially, Arcueid was entirely stoic and taciturn, solely being focused on her duties as an executioner and then returning to sleep. Shiki, by killing her, made her capable of expressing emotions, essentially "breaking her". The "airhead" version of her is something that shouldn't exist alongside her purpose as a weapon, but it was present in her foundation.

Described as the best person to have as an ally and the absolute worst to have as an enemy, Arcueid is somewhat amoral and self-centered, as while she has no desire to threaten human society and only seeks to kill vampires, she doesn't actually care about mankind itself and is mainly concerned with achieving her own goals. Moreover, she can be rather unsympathetic and merciless towards her opponents, often dispatching them in a brutal manner. In a crisis, she is capable of being cold-blooded and will prioritize her enemies' destruction over protecting innocents whenever she believes that collateral damage is unavoidable. However, she refrains from involving bystanders or those who aren't provoking battle against her.

In addition, Arcueid tends to get bored easily and often seeks to stave off her boredom by engaging in battle with strong opponents. Arcueid is very confident in her abilities as a True Ancestor that she's rarely ever worried of losing and is rather apathetic towards anyone she deems weak, as shown when she ruthlessly mocks Nrvnqsr Chaos as he is being killed by Shiki Tohno. However, she's capable of recognizing the strength of others and respects those she deems as equal. After spending time with Shiki, Arcueid grows to admire the world and finds human activities to be very amusing. She also likes watching movies and provides colorful commentary.

Despite being a vampire, Arcueid dislikes drinking blood, as she hates the idea of becoming a heartless monster that feeds on people to survive. This stems from her traumatic experience with Roa tricking her into giving into her vampiric impulses, causing her to go on a bloodthirsty rampage. Because of this, Arcueid actively suppresses her Impulses to be around humans.

Arcueid is shown to be greatly interested in Shiki, eventually developing feelings towards him. She is extremely fond of Shiki to the point where she wants to protect both him and everything that he cherishes. Arcuied does everything in her power to suppress her vampiric impulses and not drink Shiki's blood, even willing to resume her hibernation to protect Shiki and the world. Arcueid seems to thoroughly enjoy when Shiki cooks breakfast for her and likes the food he makes. However, Arcueid can also be rather possessive of Shiki and tends to get jealous of any girls who get close to him, Ciel and Akiha in particular. Despite this, Arcueid genuinely cares about Shiki and does everything in her power to make him happy, gradually becoming more selfless and considerate in the process. She was willing to uses up what little power she has to protect the city from Vlov just because Shiki wanted her to, and she sacrifices herself trying to take down Roa who is driven by SHIKI's grudge to protect Shiki.

Profile[]

Background[]

Often called the Princess of the True Ancestors or White Princess, Arcueid is a vampire born as a living weapon to hunt down and destroy the True Ancestors who went rogue and the Dead Apostles, other formerly human vampires created by her kind. Shiki meets her the day after he cuts her to pieces, at which point she introduces herself in an oddly cheerful manner. Due to Shiki nearly killing her, she's temporarily vulnerable but still strong enough to kill him, so she strongarms him into helping her destroy the vampire she is hunting. Over the course of their temporary relationship, Arcueid gets the chance to really see the world for the first time due to sleeping almost all of her very long life.

Overview[]

Arcueid Brunestud is the White Princess of the True Ancestors. The title of Brunestud was given to those True Ancestors capable of manifesting the Millennium Castle Brunestud, and has been likened to be the vampire royal family, although this is not strictly true. The True Ancestors were a race of beings copied from TYPE-MOON, the ultimate being of the moon, also known as the Crimson Moon. Long ago the planet had no defense mechanism against humanity, nothing to keep them in check. Thus the Crimson Moon came down and offered to help the planet make a race of ultimate beings to rule over humanity, thus resulting in them being the 'consciousness of the planet.' True Ancestors are likened to occurrences such as earthquakes and typhoons rather than individuals as their "...actions, while evil and without justification, would come as naturally to her (Arcueid and other True Ancestors) as breathing." However the race was fundamentally flawed, they had a desire to drink blood that the original, the Crimson Moon had. The True Ancestors needed to use a large portion of their power to suppress this impulse, but as there was no cure, and with passage of time the impulse grew, more and more True Ancestors fell and began drinking blood indiscriminately, while others most likely went into eternal sleep.

The True Ancestors didn't have a specific reason in creating Arcueid. They normally only mold new True Ancestors to fit specific needs. There was no need for a being as strong as her, but in the end, she originated from nothingness, simply as a product to realize the pointless goal of "the strongest True Ancestor." They used her great strength to make her into a weapon, the executioner of the fallen True Ancestors and of the most powerful Dead Apostles. According to Ciel, this happened in the 12th century AD, when the number of fallen True Ancestors was very high. She was able to perform this duty splendidly, but she was nothing more than a tool. She was taught nothing beyond what she needed to know to hunt her targets, to the extent that she even ignored the fact that she was the same kind of creature as those she was supposed to destroy, and went to sleep after every kill, with her accumulated memories erased.

As the executioner, she did not have any vampiric impulses, and the rest of the True Ancestors also believed she had none. A priest from the church seeking perfect immortality, Michael Roa Valdamjong, needed to become a Dead Apostle to continue his research as he had already reached the potential of his human body. Arcueid, ignorant of her nature as a vampire and the consequences of drinking blood, was easily tricked by Roa into drinking his and turned berserk, wiping out most of the True Ancestors, turning Roa into one of the strongest Dead Apostles and having a considerable portion of her power stolen by him, before she managed to regain her sanity long enough to chain herself to the throne and go to sleep. From then on she had to suppress her urge to drink blood like any other True Ancestors. The rest of the True Ancestors were wiped out either by Roa or the rest of the Dead Apostles, who made a game of trying to assassinate their creators.

Abilities[]

As the most powerful True Ancestor ever, Arcueid possesses super speed, strength, durability and resistance to attacks she has experienced before, higher power during the night and an extremely flexible ability called the Marble Phantasm.
