Zhao is a major antagonist of the Nickelodeon Show Avatar the Last Airbender, serving as the main antagonist of Book 1: Water, and a posthumous antagonist in the rest of the series.

He was portrayed by Jason Isaacs.

What Makes him a Hate Sink?[]

Betrayed his former master Jeong Jong and later comes back to try to kill him.
Captures Aang, a 12-year-old, and traps him in torturous ways, bragging about he was going to leave him just barely alive.
Smiled sadistically while Zuko was being burned by his father. To make things worse, he was one of only two people (the second being Azula) who were confirmed to enjoy seeing Zuko being burned. Everyone else were either indifferent or appalled.
Although he has a point when he tells Zuko that if his father really loved him, he wouldn't have exiled him, he only says it just to hurt Zuko emotionally.
Attempts to kill Zuko during an agni kai.
Brings a war to the northern water tribe attempting to wipe them out.
Kills the Moon Spirit leaving the whole world out of balance, causing Princess Yue to sacrifice herself for the greater good.
Rejects Zuko's offer to redeem himself out of spite.
He shows no redeeming qualities whatsoever, and even suffers a worse fate than even Ozai himself in the fog of lost spirits.
