“ | Later on, she told me the whole story. About the day she left her village. About the old man, about Cristu and Vera. About the thing her father said. About her baby. When she was done, I knew a lot of men would have to die. | „ |
~ The Punisher's thoughts after hearing Viorica's backstory regarding the Slavers. |
Tiberiu Bulat, his son Cristu Bulat, and Cristu's girlfriend Vera Konstantin are the titular main antagonists of "Volume 5: The Slavers" in The Punisher MAX. Each of them are depraved and malevolent in their own ways, guilty of inhuman acts including but not limited to genocide, mass rape, and infanticide.
What Makes Them Hate Sinks?[]
- Back in the Yugoslav Wars, Tiberiu and Cristu partook in genocide and killed over 1,800 Muslims throughout 12 villages, most of whom were men, kids and older women.
- They're all in charge of a global sex trafficking ring, kidnapping girls and young women from all over the world (including orphans) to force into prostitution for profit. Vera even gave the Bulats her "rape them to break them" strategy so their victims'd know right away who's in charge.
- For gruesome details, one girl was raped 88 times on the night of her abduction and then decided she didn't deserve to go to church or even see her own child afterwards, and another girl's sister was found dead in her home because she tried to testify about her abduction.
- When one of the Slavers' victims, Viorica, managed to escape with her infant daughter Anna, Vera had Anna kidnapped and then killed her, sending Viorica an email photo of the corpse as punishment.
- Tiberiu and Cristu try to kill each other for self-serving reasons, thus showing they're not above kinslaying.
- While Cristu and Vera are at least pragmatic and not triggerhappy sadists like Tiberiu, they still have no qualms about all the death and misery they inflict so long as it makes for good business.
- Due to their overall atrocious crimes and behaviors, their deaths are played solely for catharsis, and the Punisher even admits hating them the most out of every other villain he's faced in his career. Tiberiu and Vera are also cowards in their final moments, the latter begging for mercy while the former hypocritically demands the Punisher for a fair fight (despite killing a restrained man who wanted the same thing in his debut).
