Professor Percival Rackham (fl. 1470s)[4] was a Scottish wizard that worked as a Divination professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Tudor period, and was the leader of the Keepers.[3]
Biography[]
Early life[]
Born into a family of unknown wizarding descent sometime before the Tudor era, Percival Rackham grew up to discover that he possessed the rare ability to perceive and master ancient magic, and like others like him, eventually received a late acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, having begun his magical education as a fifth-year student.[2] When he arrived at the school, Percival was Sorted into Hufflepuff House.[3] He was implied to have been a gifted student, as he at one point said that in order to fully master said gift, one first had to be well-versed in the other magic taught at Hogwarts. Given his own talent in the field, Percival presumably excelled in Divination class.[2]
Teaching career[]
Sometime after he left Hogwarts, Percival returned and became the school's Divination professor, and at one point worked under then Headmistress Niamh Fitzgerald, and becoming a colleague of Charles Rookwood and San Bakar. Aware of Percival's unique ability, as well as the potential dangers if the knowledge of how to wield ancient magic fell into the wrong hands, together, Percival and his co-workers formed a small circle of trust known as the Keepers, who devoted themselves to the protection of ancient magic.[2]
Around 1485,[5] Professor Rackham commissioned the goblins of the then recently established Gringotts Wizarding Bank with the construction of a vault that was given the number twelve, which he, along with Charles Rookwood, converted into a test that could only be passed by those who, like himself, had the innate power to see and control ancient magic. If completed successfully, they would be granted access to a pensieve and a small, crystal bottle that contained Percival's extracted memory of setting up the challenge, as well as a portal that would take them to Hogwarts.[2]
Mentoring Isidora[]
When Isidora Morganach, a young witch who had not only possessed the same innate abilities for ancient magic as himself, but also began her attendance at Hogwarts in her fifth year, just like he had, Professor Rackham encouraged her to become his apprentice in the ways of ancient magic.[3]
Physical description[]
In his elder years, Percival was an elderly wizard with pale white skin, grey hair with a beard that brushed his chest, and brown eyes.
Personality and traits[]
Percival was an elegant man that respected intelligence and ambition, and was known to be reserved in his movements.[3]

- Ancient magic: He was able to see traces of ancient magic.[3]
- Divination: He was exceptionally skilled at divination in his time, and taught the subject at Hogwarts.[3]

- ↑ Hogwarts Legacy, Main Quest "The Path to Hogwarts" – "Vault number twelve was commissioned shortly after Gringotts was founded four centuries ago." Gringotts was founded in 1474 (The Wizarding World of Harry Potter), which means the Keepers and Isidora Morganach must have been active around this time period.
- ↑ Vault 12 "was commissioned shortly after Gringotts was founded over four centuries ago" in 1890. Though the bank was founded in 1474, eleven years before the Tudor era started, since the Keepers are invariably referred to as having been active in the Tudor era, which occurred between 1485 and 1603, this places the commission for vault 12 squarely at the very beginning of the Tudor era.
