“That's what people do who love you. They put their arms around you and love you when you're not so lovable.”

“It was one of those times you feel a sense of loss, even though you didn't have something in the first place. I guess that's what disappointment is- a sense of loss for something you never had.”
― The Nature of Jade
― The Nature of Jade
“It starts so young, and I'm angry about that. The garbage we're taught. About love, about what's "romantic." Look at so many of the so-called romantic figures in books and movies. Do we ever stop and think how many of them would cause serious and drastic unhappiness after The End? Why are sick and dangerous personality types so often shown a passionate and tragic and something to be longed for when those are the very ones you should run for your life from? Think about it. Heathcliff. Romeo. Don Juan. Jay Gatsby. Rochester. Mr. Darcy. From the rigid control freak in The Sound of Music to all the bad boys some woman goes running to the airport to catch in the last minute of every romantic comedy. She should let him leave. Your time is so valuable, and look at these guys--depressive and moody and violent and immature and self-centered. And what about the big daddy of them all, Prince Charming? What was his secret life? We dont know anything about him, other then he looks good and comes to the rescue.”

Carrie - Thank YOU for your sweet note and kind words. I am so glad we made a longtime reader-writer connection. I am one lucky writer to have readers like you. Thanks for following along with my books all this time, and for holding on to that email. You know what? It means a lot to ME that it meant a lot to YOU. :)
Happy 2014, Carrie, and thanks again for your message.

Hey Deb, I know that you accepted my friend request quite a while ago, but I haven't gotten around to thanking you for it yet. I am in love with your writing, my favorite probably having to be "The Nature of Jade". I haven't had a chance to read "He's Gone" yet, but I'm sure it will be just as good as your others, if not better. I also want to thank you for being such an inspiration to myself and others. About four years ago I think, I found you on Facebook and messaged you asking if I could interview you for a school project. I wasn't really expecting a reply, you must have had more important things to do than answer some random students questions, but to my surprise you not only responded but also gave me an email where I could ask you the questions. I can't tell you the effect that had on me. In fact, I still have the email you sent in response to my questions saved on my computer. To know that there is a wonderful author out there that will spend her hard earned time answering silly questions for a young girls project (which I got an A on, by the way) is amazing. I didn't really expect this message to be this long, but I felt that I had to thank you for writing such great literature and being such a wonderful lady. So, thank you!
Aww!! Thank you! I'm glad we're friends here! :)

Anessa, wow - you HAVE been reading my site. Thank you! But, it's actually TRUE COLORS (an unpublished adult book of mine) that has Sebastian as a child in it. HE'S GONE is a brand-new adult novel that I did. I hope you like it, even without Sebastian. :) Thanks so much for your note. xxxooo!
