The Barzini - Cuneo War was event that took place in 1942 during a period of unrest when the Cuneo family made overtures into Midtown Manhattan. There was an initial period of inaction before the Barzinis led a surprise attack on Hawk's Steakhouse, resulting in the death of Mikey Perroni. The loss of this particular business caused deep injury to the usually peaceable Cuneos, who triggered a bitter war that was finally ended with peaceful overtures by the Cuneos, who settled by an amount of territory in Midtown in return for assisting the Barzinis with business in Hell's Kitchen.
