Does ToU require that Wikiprojects update license?

On n:Wikinews:Water_cooler/policy#Update_of_license there is a discussion if Wikinews have to update to CC-BY-SA-4.0 or if it is okay to keep using CC-BY-2.5 or another license.

Perhaps someone from WMF could have a look and clarify if the ToU require that license is updated or not? --MGA73 (talk) 10:04, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@MGA73: FYI: Policy_talk:Terms_of_Use/Archive_2#Wikinews,_marketing_company_mediation The default move to CC BY SA 4.0 would not affect any project that expressly chooses to have a different licensing scheme [...] Wikinews and Wikidata's communities will keep their bespoke licensing schemes unless the communities choose otherwise. Okay thank you! --MGA73 (talk) 09:43, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@SCP-2000 and GVarnum-WMF: English Wikinews have discussed and would like to update to 4.0 but would like all WN to update so they can still share/translate articles.

Can you or anyone else tell how the update can happen?

It seems that n:en:MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning is the place to change.

But I noticed that n:en:MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyrightwarning already mention 4.0 and n:en:MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyright mention 3.0.

So to do this right I would like to know where to make changes.

I hope that if I can tell all versions of Wikinews that if they change <list of places to change> it will be easier to make everyone change. And at the same time. --MGA73 (talk) 14:32, 26 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I know pages like n:en:Wikinews:Copyright, n:en:Template:Copyvio and n:en:Wikinews:Audio guide etc. should also be updated. Any search tips? --MGA73 (talk) 15:08, 26 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Pinging @SSpalding (WMF) from Legal who may have more insight to offer. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 20:29, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Policy:Terms of Use/Frequently asked questions on paid contributions without disclosure/39, 12, 13

tags 'tvar' Rebulka (talk) 07:06, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Rebulka I've added tvars in 12 and 13.
I believe the link in 39 and the other link in 13, are intended to be localized (when possible), so I left them as is.
I also corrected (I believe) a misunderstanding in 13's Czech translation, which I request that you check to confirm, or fix as needed!
Thanks again. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:42, 30 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Remove TOC numbering

Can you add template styles or CSS to remove the table of contents numbering on Timeless, etc.? This will prevent stuff like this:

1. Introduction 2. 1. Header 1 3. 2. Header 2

etc.

CSS:

#mw-content-text .tocnumber {
   display: none;
}

I tested this out and inclined to agree with your assessment that it is indeed annoying on a number of pages and this change makes sense for some of the themes. Thank you for the suggestion, @Awesome Aasim! I have gone ahead and implemented it into wiki's CSS. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 01:08, 31 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Gebruik van citaatrecht

Zou Wikimedia haar standpunt omtrent het citaatrecht willen toelichten op Voorwaarden en beperkingen bij citeren? Wickey (talk) 11:44, 5 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Indentation of list item

Under 4 ('Onthouden van bepaalde activiteiten'), the item 'Inbreuk plegen op intellectuele-eigendomsrechten' is not properly indented. I believe this is a HTML error. On lines 1048-1051, the dl tag is closed, and the line : <b>Inbreuk plegen op intellectuele eigendomsrechten</b> is inserted between p tags, after which another dl tag is opened. The line should instead be inserted after the next dd tag and not formatted as a separate paragraph. Jeroen N (talk) 17:46, 6 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Jeroen N: The page uses wikicode and not HTML - but I will look into this and see what I can find out. Thank you for letting us know! --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 18:59, 6 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Jeroen N: Looks like a typo in the translation text - should be fixed now. Thank you for letting us know! --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 19:06, 6 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! That's subtle. I hadn't noticed that a different Unicode character was used. Jeroen N (talk) 19:15, 6 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Jeroen N: In my experience - a lot of display errors are subtle things like that. Keeps quality control work interesting. ;) --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 19:34, 6 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
