—The Abysskeeper's usual greeting to Byleth.
The nameless gatekeeper of Abyss, the Abysskeeper is a non-playable character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Profile[]
Three Houses[]
The Abysskeeper stands guard at the entrance to Abyss, the network of tunnels that run underneath Garreg Mach Monastery. He proudly reports on the going ons of Abyss, as well as his own personal frustrations. He used to live in Derdriu before heading to the Abyss for unknown reasons.
The most prominent of his frustrations lied with a man he dubbed "Mr. Backup", an NPC Cavalier from the Church of Seiros who was sent by Seteth to help the Abysskeeper with his duty. Despite his initial reservations about the man, the Abysskeeper comes to care for him, and admits that he feels lonely when Mr. Backup returns to the surface.
He returns to his post after the five-year timeskip without Mr. Backup. After spending some time searching for the man, the Abysskeeper learns that Mr. Backup died in the war. He meets Mr. Backup's elder sister in the process, and the two end up engaged.
Three Hopes[]
The Abysskeeper is mentioned in a letter mentioning the Ashen Wolves, but beyond that is not present in the game.
Personality[]
The Abysskeeper is very boastful about his job as the guardian of Abyss, believing that he's the only one who can do what he does. This changes as his relationship with Mr. Backup deepens, and the Abysskeeper comes to care about more than just his job.

Trivia[]
- Vernon Dew, the Abysskeeper's English voice actor, is also the voice actor of Rafiel in his Heroes appearance.
- The Abysskeeper bears similarity to the Gatekeeper, who stands guard at the entrance to Garreg Mach Monastery. He is also his polar opposite, in regards of him always having something to report while the other never has anything to report.
