Here I go again. You'd think that shamelessly copying the Captain's TBM review and 8bit's quizzes would be more than enough for me. Nope, because I'm now imitating Jeppo's Challenges. Of course, his are about a billion times better than mine, since I'm not especially imaginative about this kind of thing. The procedure is much the same as for Jeppo's, so you might want to check them out (in fact, do so anyway, because his are awesome). However, unlike Jeppo, when you beat one of my challenges I would prefer that you tell me on the talk page here rather than on my user talk page.
Other challenges that I am aware of include: Waterga's FFXIII Speed Challenges
On the subject of awards, there are four types. For completing a challenge, you will get either a normal award or a special gold-plated one. The latter is one-of-a-kind, because only the first person to beat that challenge gets it, and every person after them gets a normal award. The other two awards are a bit harder to get, because they're earned from the "Advanced versions" of my challenges. This is basically the same challenge, but under even harsher conditions, and completing one of them earns you a silver "merit" award. Finally, the highly prestigious platinum award, which is the greatest and most coveted of the awards, is only given to the first person to clear an advanced challenge. Suffice to say, getting a platinum award earns you some serious gamer respect from me!
To use the userbox shown here, type {{User:Sorceror Nobody/Challenges/Userbox|Number completed}}. Note that both the normal and advanced versions of each challenge count separately towards the number completed. |

Challenge #01[]
Game of origin: | Dissidia Final Fantasy NOT Prologus or 012! |

Difficulty rating: | ★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Boredom rating: | ★★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
For this challenge, your task is to utterly and completely master a character. The character can be any one out of the ones that are available, but you should tell me which character you do it with. To master a character, they must be at level 100, have all ten accessory slots and have learned and mastered all abilities possible for that character. This is hardly difficult, other than gathering enough Lifestones for all of the Rosetta Stones and Job Lores you'll need for the accessory slots, Command Battle Boost ability and "Equip X" abilities. The boredom rating is massive because of said component gathering, and also because it'll take a lot of battles to earn the AP needed to master all of those abilities. The character with which I first completed this challenge myself was Terra. I have added my own personal progress to the completion table, if anyone happens to be interested in it :P
If you complete this with multiple characters, you get all of the corresponding awards. If that doesn't appeal to your inner magpie, I don't know what will!
Remaining gold awards: None (although there is Chaos, technically)

Difficulty rating: | ★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Boredom rating: | ★★★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
The advanced version of this challenge has been devised, but it is not yet open to claims. The reason for this is that I refuse to set challenges that I have not completed, because it would be utterly unreasonable of me to expect people to accomplish something that I haven't done myself.
Challenge #02[]
Game of origin: | Final Fantasy XIII |
---|---|
Difficulty rating: | ★★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Boredom rating: | ★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
For this challenge, your task is to defeat the three end-game bosses (this one, this one and this one) under a number of restrictions. For one thing, you aren't permitted to have any quick retries. If you lose to any of the three bosses, you have to restart the attempt from the first battle. Of course, no retries means no between-battle reconfiguration, either. If you don't think this sounds particularly impressive, here's the catch: you have to use the following Paradigm Deck:
Cerberus (Three COMs) |
Tri-Disaster (Three RAVs) |
Tortoise (Three SENs) |
Infiltration (Three SABs) |
Rapid Growth (Three SYNs) |
You read that right: only five Paradigms, and there are exactly zero MEDs included in the deck! Your default Paradigm must be set to Cerberus, and you may not use Shrouds before battle (apart from Ethersol). You may not use the party leader's Full ATB Skill. That means no Army of One, Cold Blood, Sovereign Fist, Last Resort, Death or Highwind. You are not permitted to summon Eidolons either. You can use healing items, with the sole exception of Elixirs, because they're just far too much of a Get-Out-of-Imminent-Death-Free tactic. You can also use any techniques – with no MEDs, I have to at least give you Renew, right? – but to limit this, you may not boost TP regeneration in any way. In other words, you can't equip more than three of the following on any one character:
Hauteclaire | Durandal | Lionheart | Ultima Weapon | Rigels | Polaris Specials | Procyons |
Betelgeuse Customs | Unsetting Sun | Midnight Sun | Alicanto | Caladrius | Heavenly Axis | Abraxas |
Taming Pole | Venus Gospel | Survivalist Catalog | Hunter's Friend | Speed Sash | Energy Sash | Champion's Badge |
In addition to the above, the Gold Watch is also banned because a better battle rating restores more TP.
I bet you think that this is ridiculous, right? Well, I'm not entirely evil: the silver lining to this challenge is that there are no further restrictions on your party. You can use any three characters, at any stage of development, with any equipment (apart from having too many of the ones above). There is, however, one last requirement in actually doing the challenge: your total time over all three battles must be no more than six and a half minutes. Do make a note of your time after each of the three battles so that you can add them up afterwards. Obviously, although you can use a party at any stage of development, you stand a much better chance of beating this if you use a seriously beefy party. I personally used my main file, which has maxed-out Crystaria on everyone, and my party have excellent equipment. Even so, I wasn't what you would call comfortably within the time limit, as my time was six minutes and four seconds.

Advanced version[]

Boredom rating: | ★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
For the advanced version of this challenge, you must repeat the normal version, but this time you may not use Renew! The other four techniques are still allowed, as are items (apart from Elixirs). If you thought the normal version of the challenge was evil, you probably won't warm to this one! The time limit is unchanged at six and a half minutes. There are just a couple of other differences from the normal version. Firstly, the equipment restrictions no longer apply now that Renew is banned, so if you are a really tactical user of Dispelga, Stopga, Quake or Libra (tactical Libra? Really?), this might be to your advantage. Secondly, although you still aren't allowed to alter your setup between fights, you can now retry against the second and third bosses without having to restart completely.
This was originally even harder (bordering on ridiculous), and I couldn't even do it myself (friggin' Merciless Judgment!) until I re-permitted items. Those Potions saved my ass, and eventually gave me a time not unlike the one for the normal version: only four seconds slower at six minutes and eight seconds.

Challenge #03[]
Game of origin: | Dissidia Final Fantasy NOT Prologus or 012! |
---|---|
Difficulty rating: | ★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Boredom rating: | ★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
For this challenge, your task is to achieve a particular record run for any of the five Duel Colosseum courses. This record must be at least a 150-win chain with a score of at least five million points. Obviously, those of you with any sanity will realise that the Airship Course is the one to do it on, but you are permitted to use any of the other four courses if you have a particular urge to make things harder than they need to be. My own record is on the Airship Course, with an exactly 150-win chain (and 150-battle chain, since I didn't lose any), and a score of 5,127,546. I could easily have carried on, but the fact is that I devised this challenge at around the 130-battle mark, and thus did the bare minimum required to meet my self-imposed task before stopping out of boredom.
Note that you cannot rely on the game's own display of your Duel Colosseum records, because it shows your best chains and best score independently of each other, whereas this challenge requires that both the chain and score requirements be met in the same DC run as one another! Perhaps the best way to make this painfully clear is that my epic max-score 99,999,999 run would not qualify because it was only 25 battles long!

Game of origin: | Dissidia Final Fantasy NOT Prologus or 012! |

Difficulty rating: | ★★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Boredom rating: | ★★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
For the advanced version of this challenge, you must match or beat the following records. Note that, if you completed the normal version of the challenge using the Airship Course, it will save you effort on the first requirement here. If you did it with a different course, you have more work to do now, which rather serves you right for showing off! There is an alternative to these requirements: you can forgo matching the win chain requirement by matching double the points requirement! If, like me, you've fathomed roughly how the points in the Duel Colosseum work, this may be a lot easier for you than matching the chain.
I am planning to restrict this further by saying that a double score is not in lieu of the chain, but instead permits you to aim for half of the chain. As soon as I succeed in meeting this target myself, you can expect the change to occur. For this reason, it is strongly advised that you aim to meet this slightly more strict requirement to avoid complications if I have to work around claims which become invalid after the alteration.
Course | Airship | Falcon | Invincible | Lunar Whale | Blackjack |

Win chain | 100 | 85 | 65 | 40 | 10 |

Basically identical to Challenge #01, except that of course the tiresome factor this time is the insane amounts of gil required to get Lores. As before, completing it with multiple characters earns you all of the corresponding awards. Note also that transferring data from Dissidia doesn't disqualify you from this.
Once again, Terra was my first mastered character.

Lesser Challenges[]
So called because they're generally less significant than the main ones, but more importantly, they have no advanced versions.
Challenge #L01[]
Game of origin: | Dissidia Final Fantasy or Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy |
---|---|
Difficulty rating: | ★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Boredom rating: | ★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Initiate a chase sequence, and maintain it for at least 40 BRV attacks. This is not difficult, provided you set the opponent's AI to be minimal, but it does require some luck, as it is much easier to do if the opponent gets a BRV attack in that happens to orient the chase into a plane parallel to the floor, after which it can continue indefinitely. To clarify, only your attacks count, not the opponent's, and an attack being dodged doesn't break the chain.
You can also attempt this challenge in Dissidia 012, although you'd be making things a little bit harder for yourself, since the time allowed for inputs is much shorter, risking a lapse that breaks the chase sequence. My own record for this, in Dissidia, is a sequence of 48 attacks.

Challenge #L02[]
Game of origin: | Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- |
---|---|
Difficulty rating: | ★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Boredom rating: | ★★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Complete the "1000 Shinra Troops" mission in under 20 minutes, timing between the disappearance of the "Initiating Combat Mode" and "Conflict Resolved" banners. The reason that the difficulty for this is 3 is that the sorts of abilities that are likely to be required to do it this fast are comparatively late-game, which may require, for example, completion of some harder missions. Suffice to say, the task itself is extremely easy, if tiresome.
My record for this is 18 minutes and 10 seconds.

Challenge #L03[]
Game of origin: | Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (or Curtain Call) |
---|---|
Difficulty rating: | ★★★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Boredom rating: | ★★★ ☆☆☆☆☆ |
Your mileage may vary significantly on the boredom rating, depending on your skill and patience with TFF, as well as the song you attempt to complete the challenge with.
This challenge is to completely and utterly master a song, i.e. you must have a full Critical Chart and All Critical on all three difficulties (yes, Ultimate too). There are no limitations on which song you choose, as long as it is one that has the three standard difficulties (so not a Special Score). Be sure to tell me which song you did it with, and which of the two games it was.
I myself first completed this challenge in Theatrhythm with "A Fleeting Dream". Subsequently, I have added the overworld FMS themes for II, III, VII and IX, as well as "Ronfaure", "The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah", "The Dalmasca Estersand" and "The Archylte Steppe". Yeah, I've done a few. At this rate I might eventually add an advanced version for completing five or something, since I've done nine now...* Also I wish I had a non-FMS mastered track, because seriously, I'm getting predictable here. Hell, if Special Scores counted (reminder: they don't), I'd include all four FMS ones here, since I've also mastered those! In Curtain Call, I've done it with Fishermans Horizon as well as a handful of the ones done in Theatrhythm. Though I actually wanted to do an advanced version for completing all three tracks for one game. Don't think I'm going to manage that myself though.
