The Knights of Judgment - Project Zero Remnant was a seasonal event in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. Part of the game's six-month milestone festivities, this event takes place worldwide across multiple time periods.

Story[]

Our story begins after the incident in the Mythril Mines, present day, with the Turks assigned to investigate sightings of mysterious knights in horse-drawn chariots. Their search begins on the shores of Junon territory. Elena seems well-read on the existence of these shadowy figures, thanks in part to the reports sent by Tseng. She, along with Reno and Rude, engages in discussions about their potential adversaries, who are said to be seeking a worthy opponent. No sooner have they begun debate than the phantom chariots suddenly appear above, passing over the party of Turks. The trio rightly surmises that they are, in fact, unworthy.

Flashback to the aftermath of the Rhadore Islands survey mission: Sephiroth and his detachment are also aware of the shadow knights, the "Knights of Judgment", but it is no more than mere legend that the team brushes off. They spot wheel tracks and hoof prints, but believe the monsters to be a creation of the Rhadore resistance. Moments later, however, more phantoms appear from an array of vortices to surround Sephiroth's team. Normal weapons phase right through them. Sephiroth then decides to go after the foes alone, warning the others to stay behind. After a spell of intense fighting, Sephiroth vanishes into a heretofore unknown dimension, where a mysterious sword bonds with him and promises its aid against the knights. He takes the sword in hand as a katana, and returns to reality to rescue Glenn and the others; but Sephiroth vanishes through a vortex once more, where he is taken to what the spirit of the sword calls an arena for fighting the knights. Glenn later tries to follow Sephiroth in the hopes that he will back up his young leader, but fails on his first attempt. Soon, another wave of knights materializes; and this time, Glenn is pulled into the mystery dimension where the sword spirit calls to him as well, taking the form of an axe. Glenn, too, is called into the arena.

Forward again to Zack's era, where he and Tseng are in the midst of a mission in Midgar. It seems they too are investigating shadow-knight sightings, though knowledge of the phenomenon is highly classified. More vortices begin to appear with knights pouring from them. Tseng fires at a knight, but again, the bullet phases through the fiend. Zack engages the fiends and disappears into the alternate dimension as well, where the sword spirit, now a longsword, calls him to battle the knight menace.

Back in the present, Cloud and co. are on their way to Junon when they, too, are attacked by the knights. Cloud tries to defend his party, with the others contributing, but to no avail. He, too, is selected for the knights' arena, his sword spirit taking the shape of a broadsword.

Cloud's will, manifested from his Stream Saber, explains that the dimension he has been taken to is a self-aware version of an early combat simulator, with two overarching program routines aimed at selecting champion warriors to challenge it: one creates the knights, the other produces the weapons. Now, however, the system is cascading out of control, posing a threat to the real world in all places and times. As even more knights appear, the other three candidates enter the arena. After a brief meet-and-greet, Cloud, Sephiroth, Zack, and Glenn join forces to clear out the shadow knights for good.

Yet, as victory is achieved and all are praised for their efforts, the simulator, based on the Class P0 training program that was thought to have been scrapped, continues its evolution and sends out hordes of knights at lightspeed. The four warriors scramble to bring it under control and, having succeeded, the knights begin to fade from reality's timeline. With their task complete, Cloud's will informs the quartet that their program is soon to collapse, and they will be returned from whence they came. All reflect on the journey, then say their farewells. As they return to their epochs, the ghostlike harbingers of the knights are the only remnants of the shadow-knight legend, revealed to be sophisticated machines.

The four warriors will remember none of what has transpired but for the strength they gained in the battles.

Event rewards[]

From this event forward, adjustments were made in order to clarify the probabilities of a draw filling the stamp card and to provide better indications of the outcomes of a draw, though draw rates remain unchanged.

This event featured Golden Wheels, Silver Wheels, and Charger's Horseshoes as exchange currency for the shop, where the featured items were Yuffie's Chariot Wheel shuriken and Barret's Siege Cannon attachment.

Featured draw[]

Stamp Card draws for Cloud and Glenn, including matching gear, kicked off the event. This was followed at the halfway point by Stamp Card draws for Zack and Sephiroth, including their own event gear. These weapons and gear were exclusive to the event period, but were reissued during the Summer 2024 campaign and have not reappeared since.

Behind the scenes[]

As part of the ongoing campaign, the level cap for all weapons was bumped up from 90 to 120. The first Double Summon, Ifrit × Bahamut, was also introduced.
