Sanson has acquired information on the Ballad of Oblivion.

Quest description

Requiem on Ice Requiem on Ice is a Quest in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Journal[]

  • Sanson informs you that he has received information from Ser Alamenain on the Ballad of Oblivion. Specifically, the woman who is said to sing the song is a soldier stationed at the Convictory. Sanson declares that the three of you will go there to seek her out. Make your way to the Ishgardian encampment and join your companions.
  • You have tracked down the soldier, Celaine. However, though she admits to singing the song, she stubbornly refuses to teach it to you. Presently, Guydelot is attempting to coax it out of her; ask him how his efforts fare.
  • No amount of words will sway Celaine to teach you the song, and Guydelot is loath to press her further. But Sanson, determined to accomplish his duty, proposes a deal: the three of you will assist the Ishgardians in a dragon-culling operation in exchange for being near in case Celaine employs the song in battle. Make your way to Twinpools and present yourself to the Convictor knight to receive instructions.
  • The Convictor knight bids you help by thinning out the dragons. Lie in wait at the location he has marked on your map, and defeat the creatures that appear.
  • You have dispatched a sufficient number of dragons. Rejoin Sanson and the others.
  • Though the culling operation is a success, the Convictors have incurred heavy losses. Stricken with sadness, Celaine begins singing a requiem for her fallen comrades, which Guydelot recognizes as the song to send souls unto the heavens. Follow Sanson's lead and pay your respects with a /salute.
  • Appreciative of your gesture, Celaine opens up to you. At Guydelot's encouragement, she resolves to savor the time she has with her comrades, rather than keep them at arm's length to spare herself the pain of loss. In her turn, she counsels Guydelot and Sanson to appreciate each other's company. Finally, she speaks of the requiem, which she says was taught to her by a scholar of Ishgardian history named Sylviel, who is based in the settlement of Tailfeather. Speak with Sanson to learn what your next step will be.
  • It is decided that you will go to Tailfeather to seek out Sylviel. Make your way to the settlement in the Dravanian forelands and rejoin your companions.
  • Sylviel has apparently left Tailfeather on one of his many surveys, and you must await his return. With the mission taking you into ever more perilous territory, see to it that you are fully prepared for whatever lies ahead.

※The next bard quest will be available upon reaching level 56.

Guydelot To be a bard means to let your heart guide you as much as your head.

...That's what I think, at least.

Sanson Good tidings, [Player Name]! We've received information from Ser Alamenain regarding the Ballad of Oblivion!
Sanson You will recall the woman he mentioned─the one who sends souls unto the heavens with a song. She is apparently a soldier stationed at the Convictory. Let us go there at once!
Sanson Guydelot, you are coming with us!
Celaine I'm sorry, but the answer is no.
Guydelot Well, if you're not up to it, I won't press you. A song isn't something you can force out of someone.
Sanson We have found the soldier, [Player Name]─Celaine is her name. Alas, though she admits to singing the song, she refuses to teach it to us.
Sanson Guydelot is doing his best to coax it out of her. For once, his way with women may serve an honorable cause.
Sanson Guydelot is doing his best to persuade Celaine to teach us her song. For once, his way with women may serve an honorable cause.
Guydelot You won't sing for us; I don't have a problem with that. But could you at least tell us why? It'd help to ease our disappointment.
Celaine I'm no bard─just a simple soldier. And it isn't a song I would willingly sing.
Guydelot The lady has spoken. Seems to me there's nothing else we can do.
Sanson You would give up, just like that? We have a duty to accomplish!
Sanson Begging your pardons, but your comrade gave me to understand that an operation is due to be conducted presently.
Celaine Aye, dragon numbers are on the rise, and we go to cull them.
Sanson If you are not averse, we would lend you our aid. The operation would be better for the extra hands, and should you have occasion to employ the song in battle, we would be able to hear it.
Celaine ...Very well. You may join us, but on one condition: you are to provide our forces with support only.
Sanson All right, we have work to do. The operation will take place at Twinpools, to the north and west. Let us present ourselves to the commander and offer him our aid.
Guydelot And he throws a hissy fit when I do something spontaneous. Hmph.
Guydelot Well, let's make ourselves useful, the only way a bard can.
Sanson This is rather sudden, I know full well, but it is for the sake of our mission.
Celaine Remember, you are to provide support only.
Guydelot Rest assured I don't plan on charging into the fray. No, sir, I'm content to stand back and strum out a song or three.
Convictor Knight You would join us in the cull? The Holy See thanks you!
Convictor Knight Seeing as you are skilled in the bow, you may help us by thinning out the beasts. I shall mark a spot on your map; pray focus your efforts upon this area.
Sanson I shall remain close by, in case you have occasion to employ the song.
Celaine Do as you will. Just see that you do not overreach yourself.
Guydelot Go to our assigned positions, do what we always do─seems straightforward enough!
Convictor Knight Seeing as you are skilled in the bow, you may help us by thinning out the dragons. Please focus your efforts upon the area I marked on your map.
Sanson I'll not stray a fulm from Celaine's side!
Celaine Stay back! Don't make me say it again!
Guydelot Shouldn't you be elsewhere, [Player Name]? Leave this spot to us, and run along to your own.
Celaine Again, so many lives lost...
Guydelot The cull's finally over. I had no idea dragons were so bloody tough. And those were the lesser ones.
Sanson Not once did Celaine perform the song...
Sanson And though the operation itself was a success, her people suffered heavy losses.
Celaine Farewell, my friends. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Celaine Rest now, O valiant souls,♪

Lay down your weary heads.♪ Go unto the bosom of the Fury,♪ In Whose exalted name you bled.♪

Sanson A requiem?
Guydelot The song to send souls unto the heavens... This is what it was.
Sanson I was trying to make you sing a song of mourning? Gods strike me down for a callous fool...
Guydelot For once, Sanson has it right. Let's show our respects to Celaine's fallen comrades.
Celaine You need not feel bad. The fault is mine for not offering a proper explanation.
Celaine Men fall far too often in this war we wage. Wishing to spare myself the pain of loss, I've kept my comrades at a distance. Yet I always find myself racked with regret that I didn't reach out to them before they were taken.
Guydelot Aye, far better to taste pain than to live with regret. There's no need to deprive yourself of the joy of friendship.
Celaine I won't. Not anymore. I shall learn to savor the time I have with my comrades...as should you.
Celaine The two of you bicker like an old couple, but life is too short to waste squabbling with your own. So cast aside your differences, and have joy of each other's company while you still can.
Celaine As for the requiem I sang...it was taught to me by a scholar of Ishgardian history. If there is a man alive who knows the song you seek, it will be he.
Celaine Sylviel is his name, and you will find him at Tailfeather. I suggest you pay him a visit. I take my leave of you.
Guydelot Celaine's song was simple, but she sang with all her heart. Therein lies the power of a bard.
Sanson Let us go to Tailfeather, as Celaine recommends. This Sylviel may know the song, and failing that, he may at least be able to direct us to it.
Guydelot It's the fervent desire to aid our comrades that bestows our songs with power.
Guydelot It makes me wonder, what sort of desire is needed for a song that destroys all?
Guydelot I'm playing around with chords to accompany Celaine's melody.
Sanson It appears Sylviel is presently afield on one of his surveys. We must await his return.
Guydelot Tell me, [Player Name], what thoughts have you on Celaine's inner struggles?
Guydelot ...That's some deep stuff, sister/brother. Truly insightful. A pity that's all lost on Sanson─the bastard's got eyes for naught but his bloody tome.
Sanson Our mission takes us into ever more perilous territory. Pray see to it you are fully prepared for the trials ahead.
Quest complete.
