Luca is a port at the southern tip of Spira's main continent in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. Luca houses Spira's only blitzball stadium, and is the home of the Luca Goers, one of the best teams in the league.
Luca is the second largest city in Spira, after Bevelle. Due to its location, Luca is a thriving economic hub, trading with the islands of Besaid and Kilika, and even the Al Bhed. It brings in visitors from all over Spira for the blitzball tournaments, and enjoys cultural influence thanks to the sport. Luca is connected to Djose Temple via the Mi'ihen and Djose Highroads.
After leaving Luca in Final Fantasy X, the save spheres provide access to the Luca blitzball stadium from almost any location in Spira.
The blitzball stadium serves as the final scene location for both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2.
Story[]
Final Fantasy X[]
Luca's Blitz Stadium.
Yuna stops by Luca on her pilgrimage for three reasons: it is the closest mainland port from Kilika; Wakka and the Besaid Aurochs are going to participate in the blitzball tournament; and Tidus, a lost youth who ended up joining her party, may know someone in Luca, being a blitzball player.
After the S.S. Winno docks at the Luca port, the arriving blitzball teams are introduced to the crowds. The local team, Luca Goers, gets the loudest approval, while the commentators berate the Besaid Aurochs as the worst team in the tournament. Tidus nabs himself a megaphone, climbs on a crate and announces the Aurochs will be taking the cup this year, causing an uproar. Tidus is introduced to Grand Maester Mika and the newly ordained maester, Seymour Guado, who have arrived to watch the tournament. During his speech Seymour notices Yuna within the crowd.
After hearing Auron has been spotted at the city's café, Tidus and Yuna head into the main town in search of him. Kimahri is distracted from his duty as guardian when he is confronted by Yenke and Biran. During Kimahri's altercation with them, Yuna is kidnapped by the Al Bhed who demand the Besaid Aurochs forfeit their opening game against the Al Bhed Psyches in exchange for her safe return. Lulu, Tidus and Kimahri cross the docks to rescue Yuna, and are met with Al Bhed machina. After destroying waves of enemies, they reach Dock 4, board an Al Bhed ship, and fight Oblitzerator on the deck. Yuna is rescued and the Besaid Aurochs win the game in the last thirty seconds.

The Aurochs proceed onto the final against the Luca Goers, where Tidus replaces Wakka as he was injured in the last game. In the second half, Tidus leaves the sphere pool and lets Wakka play one last game of blitzball with his team. Fiends invade the stadium and chaos ensues. Wakka and Tidus fight the monsters in the water, and Auron appears among the crowd, slaying fiend after fiend. Maester Seymour summons his aeon, Anima, to dispatch the remaining fiends awing the crowd with its power, including Yuna.
Tidus is surprised to be reunited with Auron, who asks to be Yuna's guardian, also asking on Tidus's behalf. Yuna is glad to have the two join her on her journey. When the two have a moment together Auron tells Tidus that Sin is Tidus's father, Jecht. Tidus refuses to believe such an apparent impossibility, and soon after, Yuna spots him looking depressed. She tells him she also feels sad at times, but during these times forces a smile on her face. Tidus fakes laughter and, while Yuna tells him to stop, she decides to join him, while the rest of the party looks on in confusion.
After defeating Sin, Yuna and her remaining guardians return to Luca, where she makes a speech in the stadium announcing the beginning of the Eternal Calm.

A concert is being held in Luca, seemingly by Yuna, who is revealed to be an impostor who has stolen the real Yuna's Garment Grid to take on her appearance, cash in on Yuna's fame, and ruin her reputation. Rikku and Paine infiltrate the concert to retrieve Yuna's Garment Grid while Yuna hides away in disguise. Keeping a low profile, Yuna promotes "her" concert and hands out balloons to people until she hears Rikku say the concert is starting via her communicator. After Rikku and Paine crash the concert, the fake Yuna tries to make a getaway.

In pursuit, the girls lose track of the impostor and are confronted by Logos and Ormi. Relieved to get out of her moogle costume, Yuna joins Rikku and Paine in battle against Logos and Ormi before confronting the fake Yuna, who returns Yuna's Garment Grid and reveals herself to be Leblanc, leader of a rival sphere hunting group, the Leblanc Syndicate. After battling Leblanc, she and her two goons make a hasty retreat while Yuna is overcome by a strange emotion from her Songstress dressphere.
Later on, Yuna participates in a TV interview with Shelinda, participates in a Sphere Break tournament, and joins a new blitzball team. She also follows a moogle that only she can see that leads her to remember the moments she had with Tidus in Luca two years ago.
After Vegnagun and Shuyin are defeated, Spira's three leaders—Nooj, Gippal, and Baralai—announce their intention to dissolve their groups in Luca stadium, but continue their shared goal for peace in Spira. Before their speech, they ask Yuna to make an appearance, but she declines, deciding it's time for her to return home to Besaid.
Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~Eien no Daishō~[]
It's revealed that Luca was originally called Muruka, and it was the birthplace of the summoner Ifarnal (Joit).

Blitzball[]
Blitzball is accessible to the player at almost any time following the events in Luca in Final Fantasy X and in Chapter 5 in Final Fantasy X-2, via Save Spheres. The player must play blitzball as a mandatory part of the story in Final Fantasy X, but whether they win only affects one cut scene: whether the Aurochs bring home he cup or not.
In the blitzball final against the Luca Goers in Final Fantasy X, Tidus is usually switched out for Wakka at the three minute mark in the second half, however, if one allows the Luca Goers to score a goal and the player subsequently scores a further two goals (both in second half) before this point, Tidus will encourage the crowd to cheer and the commentator will be amazed at the Aurochs' comeback. Whatever time is left at this point is ignored and the scene where the crowd cheer for Wakka will play.

Yuna whistles over a ledge and quietly reminisces over cherished memories. Shortly after, she spots a moogle floating beside her that only she is able to see. It flees the scene, and as Yuna chases it, she is reminded of her memories of him, knowing full well that said memories will be with her forever.
To get Episode Complete the player must fulfill the following requirements:
- Chapter 5 – The player must watch the blitzball cutscene and complete the "Follow that Moogle!" mission.
It is not necessary to complete the "real Commotion?" mission in Chapter 1, play Sphere Break in Chapter 3 or Blitzball in Chapter 5 for Episode Complete.
Despite there being no special prerequisites to obtain Episode Complete in this area, it still possible to get Episode Concluded for this section instead by blowing off "Follow that Moogle!" and agreeing to Rikku and Paine's request to return directly to the Celsius.

Sphere Theater[]
The Sphere Theater.
At the Sphere Theater, various spheres are available for purchase, which can be listened to or viewed at the theater's main hall. Music spheres provide most of the background music in their respective games, including selections not available on soundtrack releases.
Movie spheres allow for reviewing full-motion videos, pre-rendered scenes from their respective games, though subtitles are not available for the theater. Generally, the player must have encountered a given song or video before its sphere is available for purchase.
Though the dialogue prompt reads "sphere theater", the location name in the main menu is given as "Theatre".
Final Fantasy X[]
Music and movie spheres can only be purchased in their listed order. Buying every sphere in the theater in the Final Fantasy X HD Remaster version earns the Theater Enthusiast trophy/achievement.
In the HD Remaster version, the player can choose whether to listen to the Original or Arranged versions of the songs regardless of which version they currently have set in the menu and at no additional charge.

Musical themes[]
The predominant musical theme in Luca is called "Luca". "Grand Maester Mika" plays when Maester Mika appears in Luca. "Decision On The Dock" is played when the party is pursuing the Al Bhed. "The Splendid Performance" is played just before the blitzball final.
The theme from Final Fantasy IX known as "Queen Brahne Appears - The Play Begins" can be heard in the FMV when the player first arrives in Luca, as the camera pans down one of the streets. Just before this, "Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony" from Final Fantasy VII can be heard.
In Final Fantasy X-2, Luca has a different theme, though it is still called "Luca".

The Besaid Aurochs have arrived in Luca for a blitzball tournament. As they wait for their match to begin, Yuna is kidnapped by the Al Bhed.
Behind the scenes[]
Numerous areas of Luca have of words in Spiran script written on the backgrounds. The blitzball stadium has logos that spell "NK Travels" and "BBC" (possible in-game blitzball sponsor and TV network), the Luca theater has signs that spell "Gilventure" (it may have been initially intended to be an auction house, as the flags on either side of the causeway leading towards the sphere theater say "auction hall"), and the bar where Auron is thought to be has a menu with a list of items in Spiran script, including whiskey, beer, wine, cocktail and nuts. When in Luca the first time, Yuna tells Tidus she heard Auron is in a cafe and they set out to look for him. There is a location in Luca Square labeled "Cafe" in Spiran script, however the player can only enter the establishment with the sign that reads "Bar". Tidus and Yuna didn't find Auron because they looked in the wrong place.
Approaching dock number 4, a dolphin can be seen swimming in the sea.
Seymour brings two Guado bodyguards and before the tournament they are with Mika’s entourage next to the ship from Bevelle. The bodyguards disappear from their post during the tournament, and don't return. Later, it is shown Guado can summon fiends out of pyreflies. Luca Stadium is swarmed by fiends during the tournament, and it is implied it was orchestrated by Seymour to show his power as a summoner and garner goodwill by saving the people at the stadium. When Seymour is seen again at the north end of Mi'ihen Highroad, his bodyguards are with him.
Despite the fall of Yevon in Final Fantasy X-2, the banners around the Luca dock still sport the symbol of Yu Yevon.

Etymology[]
Luca is a male name of Italian origin that means "bringer of light".
