Prevents Confusion.
Description
Clear Headed is a support ability in Final Fantasy IX that every permanent party member can learn. It prevents Confuse from taking effect for the cost of 5 Magic Stones.
Obtained[]
Clear Headed is learned from numerous equipment pieces for variable amounts of AP; Vivi and Eiko learn it the fastest at 15 AP, while Freya learns it the slowest at 35 AP. Equipping multiple equipment pieces that all teach Clear Headed, masters the ability faster.
Magician Shoes is the one equipment piece that teaches Clear Headed that everyone can wear. It is first found in Cleyra's Trunk. To get it, the player needs to have recruited Quina, and to make it to the town of Cleyra and fall into the sand pit there with Quina to access the ledge where Magician Shoes are. After reaching the settlement and watching the ATEs "No Yummy-Yummies!" and "There A Mushroom!", the player needs to head to the pit right of the town entrance, and Zidane will jump in after Quina. The shoes can later on be synthesized in synthesis shops.
Other easily available equipment pieces are Gold Helm for Steiner and Freya first stolen from Antlion and available from shops later; Lamia's Tiara for female party members and Quina found in Fossil Roo (and bought from shops after); and Magic Armlet for mages is bought from shops in Outer Continent.
Use[]
With Clear Headed, the character will be immune to confusing abilities, a useful ability to have as Confuse makes the afflicted attack allies and heal enemies.
Good places to equip Clear Headed for are against Lamia, Cactuar, Ark, Malboro, Quale, Ozma, Hades, and the final boss.
