Doubles ATB when activated. Cannot be used continuously. Press + to activate.
Description
ATB Boost materia is a Command Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission". Its ability, ATB Boost, doubles the user's current ATB charge. It is best used to turn one full ATB charge into two, allowing two ATB abilities to be used. Unlike most command materia abilities, ATB Boost does not appear on the menu, but is activated by pressing + . The ability was greatly improved in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
Obtained[]
An ATB Boost materia is purchased from Chadley (100 gil) after completing the Battle Intel Report 4 (stagger 15 types of enemies).
In "Episode INTERmission", ATB Boost is a reward for scoring 10,000 points in the Basic Training course of the Shinra Box Buster minigame.

Use[]
ATB Boost will double the user's current ATB charge when the ability is off cooldown. It thus allows a free ATB charge when used at 1 ATB charge, either quickly charging abilities that require two ATB charges to be executed, or to use multiple abilities in quick succession. The ATB Boost has a long cooldown, though this shortens as the materia levels up, and was shortened further for Intergrade. Though it normally only allows for one use per fight, in lengthier, drawn-out battles against harder bosses, ATB Boost may be used multiple times a battle. However, in lengthier battles equipping another materia that charges ATB more than one charge per the current cooldown rate would make for a superior equip.
ATB Boost can be especially useful on Tifa, whose strength lies in performing her abilities together in quick succession, or Aerith, whose strength lies in using support abilities to boost her spellcasting; it can also help keep Aerith topped up on ATB when she uses ATB Ward, or to spam Soul Drain against staggered foes to refill her MP, especially in hard mode. It can also be used with important materia, such as Healing Materia or Prayer Materia, to quickly heal the party when in a dire situation. Cloud can easily finish off staggered foes with Infinity's End, which costs 2 ATB bars; with ATB Boost, Cloud can quickly top up his ATB at the right time to finish a battle/enemy. Barret can also make good use of it, especially when using melee weapons or does not have access to Overcharge. This is because many of his abilities use his entire ATB gauge, and the more he has the more damage (or stagger) he deals; the ATB Boost could thus be used at the right time, particularly when paired with an ATB Stagger materia, to make most of his abilities after expending his ATB, such as to pull off a full ATB Point Blank before an enemy's stagger runs out.
ATB Boost can be equipped in combination with some Complete Materia to build up a chain of abilities. In conjunction with Skill Master Materia, they can use ATB Boost to use two abilities in quick succession, leading Skill Master to grant them yet another ability. Refocus Materia grants an extra limit break that gives a party member three ATB bars for the remainder of the battle; using ATB Boost after this can allow a character to boost at 1.5 ATB charges to fill up the meter. Other complete materia, such as ATB Stagger Materia, ATB Assist Materia, Steadfast Block Materia, can be used in combination with ATB Boost to increase options.
In Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the cooldown times at each level are halved, which now range from 180s–60s. This means that it can provide ATB twice as frequently, greatly improving its overall accessibility and usefulness.
