A Kleibrei
The Kleibrei are a species in the Boundless Fantendoverse, known for being highly magical in nature they're one of the great sources of knowledge for magic in the galaxy having established numerous academies for the schools of magic. Although they're a cooperative race they can be rather cutthroat and often like to ensure that the work they put into their discoveries into magic are well compensated, much to the dismay and sometimes vitriol of other species.
Appearance[]
The Klebrei are a humanoid species with long elf-like ears that curve, forming a spiral-like shape at the tip. They typically have long silky hair, usually a silvery colour although some are known to have a blonde or azure colouration to their hair. They have a fairly pale skin-tone with a slight green-ish tinge being described as mint-like in the more vibrant skin tones of the species.
Their bodies are on average slightly smaller than humans although only marginally. Their noses tend to have an upwards hook to their shape which can give them the appearance of being smug when no such sentiment is intended to be conveyed. The most notable physical difference is the horn-like growth from their chests, these bony-structures evolved in their ancestors to protect them from attacks directly ahead and historical records suggest that the horns used to be larger and sharper and have become more vestigial over time. Some Kleibrei are born with two horns that grow in opposing directions while others are born with one, no one is sure what causes this as it is not passed on genetically between parent and child and has disappeared from a lineage for hundreds of years only to reappear again without reason. There generally does not appear to be much evolutionary advantage over having one or two horns.
Culture[]
As the Kleibrei heavily favoured magic over technology when their species developed, their society is largely a religious order with many qualities that focus around attaining a higher spiritual connection with what the Kleibrei call the Mirror Self which is believed to be the spiritual reflection of someone that exists within a plane where all magic is derived from, and the stronger one's connection is to their other self the more capable they can become in performing magic.
Kleibrei society on their homeworlds is diarchic, households will often have a patriarch and matriarch who rule over a large extended family, although it is traditionally passed from eldest of each generation some households instead pass it down through the child with the most powerful magic. The average Kleibrei household is usually four generations in large tree-like structures that have been formed using powerful Earth Magic to create the naturally-shaped rooms, it has only been in the last 400 years that the Kleibrei have taken on creating their own structures through construction rather than relying solely on natural structures. While this change was initially met with hesitation, many have found the ability to be liberating as it lead to an explosion in the variety of buildings that could exist on the Kleibrei homeworld.
The Kleibrei's religious order is generally viewed as one of the more favourable as it is less intrusive than some other species and has been more open to other species which allowed for the rapid development of the Klebrei Academies across their shared territory with other species. Because of this, the Kleibrei are also often requested for diplomatic talks between species to serve as mediators as they tend to avoid directly involving themselves with other species in such a way that would affect the whole Kleibrei species.
Abilities[]
The Kleibrei are one of the front-runners in terms of magical abilities in the Galaxy, their advanced capabilities in almost any form of magic has lead to many specializing in a particular school of magic that interests them. It is believed that all Kleibrei do have some innate skill in Earth Magic due to how important it was during their formative development as a species although there have been records of Kleibrei who completely lack any ability in this magic while being proficient in others. In terms of physical skill, the Kleibrei are generally adverse in all regards, the most physically able Kleibrei are the athletes of their homeworld as the Kleibrei don't have a standing military, as a result physically the Kleibrei are regarded as one of the weakest species although thanks to their magical abilities they rarely have to rely on their rather lacking physical strength.
History in the Fantendoverse[]
The Kleibrei are one of the older space-faring species having been estimated to be space-faring for over a millennia. They have generally adhered to a pact of non-aggression and focus more so on appeasing others to seek out their own personal goals, this is most evident in the Kleibrei Acadamies of Magic which are one of the few institutions to be found across multiple territorial regions and are considered sacred neutral territory and as such attacking one is considered a crime severe enough to make one an enemy of almost every faction in the Perseus Arm of the galaxy.
