Hotelier is a roguelike action game developed by Candy Dynamics in conjunction with many other collaborators for release on the Nymbus and the Z-Lunar ZCLIPSE. The game follows a wide cast of characters as they attempt to escape the supernatural and endless Insomnia Hotel by reaching the rooftop. The game receives regular updates adding new content, including new characters, bosses, items, and floors. The game was revealed at Fan15.
Gameplay
The gameplay of Hotelier heavily draws from that of Supergiant Games’ 2018 game Hades. The player explores the Insomnia Hotel as one of many player characters (though the only player character available at the start of the game is Ola Cola). The goal for each player character is to reach the rooftop of the Insomnia Hotel and escape, which requires navigating through rooms on a randomized series of floors to unlock elevator buttons to the next floor. Should the player character be defeated, they will return to the hotel’s lobby, which serves as the game's hub, and the series of floors they will traverse will be randomized again.
Each floor is divided into randomized rooms with predetermined layouts. In the majority of rooms, the player will face a combat trial which they must pass in order to proceed. Upon passing the room’s trial, the player will receive a random reward which they are notified of before they enter the room via a marking on the door. Multiple doors may open to a new room after completing a trial, but the player can only enter one of them and cannot return to a previous room. The floor is completed when the player completes a Boss Trial room, and they may then continue on to the next floor.
Combat is primarily hack-and-slash, and each playable character has four varying special abilities they can use by default for attacks or other purposes. The player can use a Ranged Ability by pressing the leftmost face button, a Melee Ability by pressing the rightmost face button, a Dash Ability by pressing the right trigger button, and a Charged Ability by holding and releasing the leftmost face button. All characters can also dash as a dodge maneuver using the bottommost face button, and usable collected items can be activated by scrolling through a menu with the right control stick and pressing the topmost face button. Player characters will also gain experience from each trial and may gain some additional experience from pursuing more difficult trials, allowing them to level up up to four times. Each level up grants a character-specific bonus, and reaching the fifth level will unlock their Ultimate Ability which can be activated once a meter charged by additional experience gained is fully charged. Pressing in the left stick will then activate this ability, which will cause the meter to start quickly depleting, and the ability will end when the meter is fully depleted. Experience is reset for each character upon a new run.
Each player character ability can deal any combination of 18 damage types, more of which may be added post-launch. All abilities may use one or more damage types, and all characters have a primary damage type which allows them to deal better damage for one damage type (and which most of their attacks usually use). The available damage types are as follows:
- Liquid
- Energy
- Psychic
- Heat
- Cold
- Gaseous
- Mineral
- Nature
- Shadow
- Divine
- Air
- Piercing
- Blasting
- Knocking
- Draining
- Cutting
- Impact
- Stunning
Premise
Many guests in strange circumstances from around the universe have found themselves lured into the mysterious Insomnia Hotel, a hotel in an alternate realm which seems to have no limit to its floors and no escape. The only hope for these guests is to access the Rooftop by collecting 16 Rooftop Access Shards, which can be found at the end of each floor. However, should a guest be defeated before they complete a sequence of four randomized floors, they will lose their progress (including recently collected Rooftop Access Shards) on these floors and will have to go back in the hotel to look for them again.
After the player collects 16 Rooftop Access Shards, they will gain a Rooftop Access Card, allowing them to explore the hotel in Hard Mode. In this mode, the player will complete six randomized floors instead of four, and they will be able to challenge the final boss at the Rooftop at the end.
Character Creation Rules
- Please create a subpage for your character and link them in the Guests section at the appropriate room number.
- Follow the general character subpage format as seen on this page.
- While you do not have to upload your character's subpage in a finished state, you are expected to include relevant information and meet Fantendo's page quality standards. You are also expected to complete the page within two weeks.
- All characters should be made to work in terms of the game's gameplay. There can be some deviation from this for certain characters as long as it is explained on their page.
- Characters who have appeared in other Fantendo projects before Hotelier are generally discouraged. No more returning Fantendo characters are allowed to be added at this time.
- Content made purely for trolling is not allowed.

Hotel Staff
Non-playable characters are considered Hotel Staff. These characters may be bosses, minibosses, allies, or have other roles in the game.
Housekeeping Droids |
The Housekeeping Bots are a miniboss who may appear instead of a typical trial encounter. They are a team of five robots who will use unique tools to fight against the intruding player. Dust Droid uses a feather duster to perform swift close-range Air Damage attacks, Laundry Droid slowly fires cloths dealing a good amount of Liquid Damage, Trash Droid charges with a broom to deal Stunning Damage, Meal Droid tosses silverware upward to come back down as Cutting Damage missiles, and Supervisor Droid will try to avoid combat and heal the other Housekeeping Droids. |
Laita |
Laita is a cleaning maid working in the Insomnia Hotel. She has worked there for a very long time and hasn't seen the light of day ever since she has left, though this doesn't bother her as she greatly enjoys her job keeping the place tidy. Laita can be rarely found in corridors between enemy rooms, where she will offer the player character several different treats such as cups of tea and coffee, cakes, and cookies, which, among a range of other helpful effects, will restore their health. |

Trivia
- StellaStardown (t∣b∣c) initially had the idea for Hotelier in October 2020. The project remained unreleased until she was motivated to create a new community project during the Fantendo Renaissance following the wiki's 15th anniversary.
- Hotelier was primarily inspired by Paradigm.
