Samantha Jane Power (sündinud 21. septembril 1970 Castleknockis Iirimaal) on ameerika ajakirjanik, poliitik ja diplomaat.
Power on lõpetanud Yale'i Ülikooli ja Harvardi ülikooli õigusteaduskonna. Tema teos "A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide" pälvis üldiste mitteilukirjanduslike teoste kategoorias 2003. aastal Pulitzeri preemia.
Alates 2013. aasta 2. augustist kuni 2017. aasta 20. jaanuarini oli Samantha Power Ameerika Ühendriikide suursaadik Ühinenud Rahvaste Organisatsiooni juures.[1]
Forbesi maailma 100 mõjukaima naise loendis oli ta 2014. aastal 63. kohal, 2015. aastal 49. kohal.[2]
Elu- ja töökäik
[muuda | muuda lähteteksti]Power sündis ja kasvas kuni üheksanda eluaastani Iirimaal,[3] kust emigreerus koos vanematega 1979. aastal Ameerika Ühendriikidesse Pittsburghi.[4]
Aastatel 1993–1996 kajastas ta ajakirjanikuna Jugoslaavia sõja sündmusi väljaannetes U.S. News & World Report, The Boston Globe, The Economist ja The New Republic.
Power oli kuni 2008. aastani senaator Barack Obama vanemnõunik. 2008. aasta märtsis loobus ta osalemisest Obama valimiskampaanias pärast seda, kui oli vabandust palunud sel ajal senaatoriks olnud Hillary Diane Rodham Clintoni koletiseks (“a monster”) nimetamise eest.[5]
