[edit]From dialectal Dutch teiken, from Middle Dutch têken, teiken, from Old Dutch *tēkan, *teikan, from Proto-Germanic *taikną. Doublet of teken (“sign”), from standard Dutch teken. Cognate with German Zeichen, English token.
