Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic строугъ (strugŭ), from Proto-Slavic *strugъ. Compare Bulgarian струг (strug), Serbo-Croatian strug, Polish strug, Russian струг (strug). The nasal infix may be due to the influence of Greek.
