[edit]From Old Persian [Term?], from Proto-Iranian [Term?], from Proto-Indo-Iranian [Term?], from Proto-Indo-European *ḱelH- (“cold”).[1] Compare Avestan 𐬯𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬙𐬀 (sarəta, “cold”), Pashto سوړ (soṛ, “cold”), Lithuanian šáltas (“cold”), Old Norse héla (“hoarfrost, rime”), and perhaps Sanskrit शिशिर (śiśira, “cool, frigid”).[2]
