From Ancient Greek αἱμορραγία (haimorrhagía, a violent bleeding), from αἱμορραγής (haimorrhagḗs, bleeding violently), from αἷμα (haîma, blood) + -ραγία (-ragía), from ῥηγνύναι (rhēgnúnai, to break, burst); see ῥήγνῡμῐ (rhḗgnūmi) for more.
