[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish فیات (fiyat), فیئات (fiʼat, “price”). Pseudo-Arabism formed artificially in Ottoman by combining the Arabic plural ending ـَات (-āt) with فی (fi, “rate, price”), itself from dialectal Arabic فِي (fī, “in; about; times”).
