[edit]Unknown. According to Josep Coromines, unlikely from Latin cinisculum, which could not explain Spanish cisco, which was attested first; perhaps from Proto-Celtic *sexskā (“rushes, sedge”), from Proto-Indo-European *sek- (“to cut”).[1][2]
