[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Middle French aussi, from Old French ossi, ausi, alsi (“as, in the same way as”), from Vulgar Latin *ale si (“other so, else so”), from Latin alid, aliud (“other, another, any other, else”) + sīc (“so, thus”); probably a calque of Frankish *allswā (“as, likewise, in the same way”). Compare also similarly formed Old French altresi (“as, in the same way as, also, as well”).
