Borrowed from Medieval Latin Ladislaus, Latinization of a Slavic royal name *Voldislavъ, from the elements Proto-Slavic *voldь (power) (see *volděti) and Proto-Slavic *slava (glory). Doublet of Laszlo and Vladislav.
