[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀑𑀛𑀸𑀅 (ojhāa), 𑀉𑀅𑀚𑁆𑀛𑀸𑀅 (uajjhāa), 𑀉𑀚𑁆𑀛𑀸𑀅 (ujjhāa), 𑀉𑀚𑁆𑀛 (ujjha), from Sanskrit उपाध्याय (upādhyāya, “teacher [of the Vedas]”). The magician sense is a semantic loan from Hindustani اوجھا (ojhā) / ओझा (ojhā). Doublet of ઉપાધ્યાય (upādhyāya) and ખોજા (khojā).
