[edit]From Ancient Greek σάπων (sápōn), from Latin sāpō, from Proto-Germanic *saipǭ. Also found as Aramaic צַפּוֹן (ṣappōn), סַפּוֹן (sappōn), Arabic صَابُون (ṣābūn), Hebrew סַבּוֹן (sabbon).
