Baixo Alentejo is a region in southern Portugal.
Cities
[edit]- 1 Alcácer do Sal — a very old town on top of a hill, by the Sado River. The municipality includes the seaside village of Comporta.
- 2 Alvito — town with castle and palace
- 3 Beja — sits on a high hill overlooking beautiful and fertile valleys that produce cereals, olive oil, and wine
- 4 Grândola — a town known for singer Zeca Afonso as "Vila Morena" (tawny town), with a mountain of the same name
- 5 Odemira — the largest municipality in Portugal by area. It includes the seaside village of Zambujeira do Mar with fine sandy beaches and traditional architecture; it is part of the Nature Park of the Southwest Alentejo
- 6 Sines — port and castle city where Vasco da Gama was born
- 7 Santiago do Cacém — it has Roman ruins, a Moorish castle, and a 13th-century church

- 2 Guadiana Valley Natural Park — includes the Pulo do Lobo, a where the waters of the Guadiana fall about 20 m through a rocky gorge
- 3 Natural Reserve of the Lagoons of Santo André and Santa Sancha
- 4 Sado Estuary Natural Reserve — a nesting, resting or wintering spot for many of 221 species of birds that have been recorded here
