- File:Ronald Skirth (1897-1977) seated.jpg (talk|edit|history|logs|links|watch) (article|XfD|restore)
Deleted at FFD in 2010 because a PD replacement was found. The replacement has subsequently been deleted on identity concerns and not being PD after all. A search in 2018 has found no free alternatives and we are back to the non-free option (WP:NFCC#1). The FFD concerns can be addressed by specifying use in the infobox of the article Ronald Skirth to meet WP:NFCC#10c. - Restore the reason for deletion is no longer valid and AFAICT it would be reasonable to use this image as fair use. Hut 8.5 22:32, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Restore per nom. Jclemens (talk) 06:12, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Restore speedily; this could just as easily be handled at WP:UNDELETE. ~ Amory (u • t • c) 21:12, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- On the surface, this seems like a no-brainer to restore, but I'm looking at the comment, No evidence is given of the research into the author's identity, required for the UK license in the Commons FFD and wondering if that same issue would apply to this photo? I'm also looking at the deleted en file page where it says, I have the permission of Jean Skirth, the copyright holder, to distribute the image. If that's the case, then it seems like forwarding that permission to OTRS would give clear rights to use this and we wouldn't have to do the fair use thing. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:30, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- @RoySmith: judging from the file name, the photograph in question is this. It also appears on the cover of Skirth's autobiography, The Reluctant Tommy. I'm confident that the editors of that book have got the right man on the cover; it's not just somebody in plain clothing that looks like him. Regarding the alleged permission, I think you should contact the uploader on their talk page or ping them so that we can find out if the permission is adequate for a free license. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 14:43, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
