Hallo

[edit]

Hallo HansM, vielen Dank für Frederick William, Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. De728631 (talk) 14:35, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip. HansM (talk) 20:49, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:23, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Hello, I notice many of your German article translations. Can you translate this de:Katharina von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1518–1574) into English?--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 22:39, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for creating the Philip I, Duke of Pomerania article. If you create such an extensive article, you may want to consider adding inline references (per WP:CITE) and nominating it at T:TDYK for front page exposure. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:18, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Persondata

[edit]

Hi. It seems you translate articles from German wikipedia. Do you use some program or do you do it manually? It seems you introduce errors in Persondata. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 08:18, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For instance check this one. Persondata doesn't support "BIRTHPLACE" and "DEATH" but "PLACE OF BIRTH" and "PLACE OF DEATH". -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:19, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You keep doing it. Why? Check this. Mistake? -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:13, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that was a mistake. I am sorry. I'll try to be more careful in the future. -- HansM (talk) 22:26, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's ok. You 'll probably have to update some monobook or something. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:28, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dispositio Achillea requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article consists of a dictionary definition or other article that has been transwikied to another project and the author information recorded.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi Hans. Welcome to English Wikipedia! I see you are a fellow translator. I have been around Wikipedia a while and focussed mainly on translating German articles (historic railways, geography, and most things to do with my area of Lower Saxony including the history of Brunswick-Lüneburg. If I can help in any way, do let me know. Gruß. --Bermicourt (talk) 19:12, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. You've been doing some fantastic work today and extremely valuable content on medeival German figures. Your work here is especially appreciated, given the lack of German translators. Greetings HansM, I'm posting this message on your talk page because I noticed that you've recently created the new article Ernest, Duke of Opava--However, I think the article seems to contain a few errors: some of the article's Wikilinks are broken.

Frederick III, Duke of Brunswick-Göttingen-Calenberg

[edit]

Hi Hans. First of all thank you for your work on German nobility - it's great to have a fellow enthusiast on board! With regard to the above article, I'm not sure the title is correct. My understanding is that the Welfs in this part of the world routinely shared the Duchy Brunswick-Lüneburg between them and that they all called themselves (confusingly) "Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg" and "Prince of FOO", where FOO=their allotted portion of the Duchy. So in this case, Frederick would have been both a "Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg" and "Prince of Calenberg", but not "Duke of Brunswick-Göttingen-Calenberg" because that wasn't a Duchy. In fact according to the main Brunswick-Lüneburg article, the Principality of Göttingen-Calenberg did not emerge until Frederick's death... but is that correct?

On German Wiki they fudge this by calling the article de:Friedrich III. (Braunschweig-Calenberg-Göttingen). On English Wiki, we are supposed to use the "highest" title, so he could be Frederick III, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg. However, we then need to check whether he was Frederick III of B-L or Frederick III of Calenberg. I'm afraid it's all a bit of a minefield! For example, there were several Otto II's of different branches! I also have this one listed as Frederick IV of B-L, but only Frederick of Calenberg, as Calenberg had no other Fredericks. Where has the III come from? --Bermicourt (talk) 19:03, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rudolf or Rudolph

[edit]

Hi Hans. Thanks for your work on German nobility - there's plenty of gaps to fill! I see you changed "Rudolph" to "Rudolf" e.g. at Albert of Saxe-Wittenberg, Duke of Lüneburg. Normally in English we use the Anglicized versions of historic nobility e.g. "Henry" for "Heinrich" or "Henri". Interestingly, although the article on Rudolf II, Duke of Saxe-Wittenberg uses "Rudolf", the German script above his contemporary picture reads "Churfürst Rudolph II." So it would seem even the Germans used "Rudolph". I didn't know that! --Bermicourt (talk) 19:53, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Translation/ref

[edit]

Hi Hans, I don't think you need to use both {{Translation/ref}} and {{translated page}} as you did at Frederick II, Margrave of Baden-Eberstein. Both templates are used to indicate the source of the interwiki translation but Translation/ref is deprecated. Although it has been used as a reference in the early days and can still be found in the external links section of older articles, this practice is now being discouraged since self-referencing to Wikipedia means using unreliable sources. So for new articles you might want to use the talk page template only. Regards, De728631 (talk) 17:34, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Themenkreis op den Graeff

[edit]

Hallo HansM.

On 2 February 2012 you made this edit to the article Anne de Noailles what were you sources for this edit? Please add them to the article. -- PBS (talk) 16:59, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I have deleted the text from Anne de Noailles as it was placed into Wikipedia by an editor who has been locked out by a bureaucrat from editing any of the sites administered by the Wikipedia foundation (an unusual ban -- the only one I which I know). One of the problems with his edits is that he adds genealogical information to articles without sourcing the changes.
For copyright reasons and to aid to other editors finding sources please read Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. If you copy something from another article within Wikipedia at the very least you must mention the article from which you copied it in the history of the target article.
Because of "editors" like LouisPhilippeCharles one can not assume that unsourced information from a Wikiepdia article such as Louise Boyer is correct, so unless you can source it (and place sources in the original) I suggest that you refrain from copying such text as it may make two articles inaccurate rather than just the first one.
I noticed recently when reverting 100s of moves by sockpuppets of LouisPhilippeCharles that you had edited dozens of the pages, often as the editor just before or just after he made his move. If you notice a pattern of moves (such as duc to Duke) in any articles that you watch please inform me so I can check if it is a sockpuppet of LouisPhilippeCharles.

Gervais, Count of Rethel

[edit]

Hi Hans,

There seems to be some confusion over which or even how many daughters of Gervais, Count of Rethel married into the Marmions.

Your original stub says he had 2 daughters but only lists one Millicent aka Elizabeth married to a Robert Marmion b.1093.

The main English pedigrees (Cokayne, Dict of Nat Biog, etc) for the Marmion family list the generations around the link to the de Rethels as follows:-

  1. Roger Marmion d.1130 m. d of Urse d'Abitot
  2. Robert Marmion d.1143 m. Millicent
  3. Robert Marmion d.1181 m. Elizabeth d of Gervais s of Hugh, Count of Rethel
  4. Robert Marmion, Chief Justiciary d.1218 m1. Maud de Beauchamp m2. Phillippa

Where did the information that Millicent d of Hugh, Count of Rethel married a Robert Marmion b.1093 come from? How reliable is it?

I am not aware of the name Millicent being used interchangeably with Elizabeth. Is it possible that Robert Marmion d.1181 married his mother's aunt!? i.e.,

  • Robert Marmion d.1143 m. Millicent d of Gervais s of Hugh, Count of Rethel
  • Robert Marmion d.1181 m. Elizabeth d of Gervais s of Hugh, Count of Rethel

Übersetzung−Translation

[edit]

The two articles deal with shipping companies from the Neckar which operated cargo shipping and passenger shipping. It would be nice if there was an English version of the two articles. Or maybe you know someone who wants to translate the articles? Gruß Hiquwus

The article Princess Augusta of Waldeck and Pyrmont has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No meaningful coverage in sources found beyond "Find a Grave", which is not a reliable source. (Origins of the portrait are dubious.) No notability argument and WP:NOTINHERITED. Even the authority control databases suggest there is some confusion between this person (mentioned in passing in the historical archives) and Augusta Louise zu Stolberg-Stolberg who definitely is notable due to her correspondence with Goethe. Does not pass WP:BASIC, let alone WP:GNG.
