Monsters!

[edit]

Forgive me if I have asked you about these before... I've had D&D monsters on my mind lately. In particular, I see maybe three that could be getting closer to re-emerging, namely: Githyanki, Rust monster, and Yuan-ti, although possibly others. Do you see anything more that could help with a little resurrection magic? BOZ (talk) 02:26, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boz, hope you've been well. Of the three, the githyanki might be the most promising one, because I already spotted one ok source from Google Scholar. I expect more coverage will appear once Baldur's Gate 3 exits Early Access for a formal launch. Rust Monster has a respectable amount of pop culture references, but I need to do more research because I suspect this creature is still relatively obscure to all but the most hardcore D&D enthusiasts. I am not sure about Yuan-ti, unfortunately I haven't spotted a truly outstanding source that provides significant coverage about them so far. Haleth (talk) 06:13, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! We will have to keep an eye out to see what else comes up. BOZ (talk) 12:38, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I have my heavy doubts that any of those three creatures would be sufficiently notable for Wikipedia. They all mostly seem known to D&D fans rather than wider society. The most that I can see is Yuan-ti getting a sentence or two in reptilian humanoid. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 07:54, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Curry mee shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
Note that the same warning has been posted on User talk:Sayurasem, please take the discussion to the talkpage of Curry Mee instead of over edit summaries. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 09:27, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Senior

[edit]

Please remove your "selfish" attitude here, you are a senior editor on wikipedia for 15 years. You should be able to see which revisions are right and wrong, before judging me as "non-neutral" Sayurasem (talk) 03:52, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sayurasem, I think you were attempting to reach for another word here. "Selfish" would refer to the fact that I am self-interested, except here on Wikipedia, there is literally nothing to be "selfish" about, whether it is for personal profit or pleasure as I don't own anything on this site and am not paid by any entity to edit. But you are correct; while I would not consider myself to be a "senior" poster, I've been around long enough to accurately call out bullshit when I see it. So, your unsubtle attempts to promote your country at the expense of its neighbours in a series of articles about cultural stuff that is shared across the entire Maritime SE Asia region, without seeking consensus or being supported by reliable and independent sources (government websites are self-published experts just like blog posters who have authored published books), clearly violate the neutral point of view policy. Now, I suggest that we continue discussions about Wikipedia articles in their respective talk pages, instead of my talk page. This is also my one and only warning: don't post on my talk page about on wiki stuff ever again, if you are going to be rude about it. Haleth (talk) 09:57, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You always claim to be the most correct editor on wikipedia "I'm never wrong". For you, other editors who disagree with "your point of view" are wrong and only you are right. You are always looking for justification for all your claims, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias

And no, I'm not breaking any rules on wikipedia, the sources I listed (government websites and national/international news portals) are trustworthy sources, at least much more trusted and accurate than FOOD BLOGGER Sayurasem (talk) 05:20, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your rambling about confirmation bias and never being wrong, says a ‘’lot’’ more about you then me. You seem to have difficulty editing collaboratively with other editors, especially from people of other nationalities, judging by the frequency in which other editors have undone or reverted your edits in many other pages before I became aware of your existence. I doubt Wikipedia is appropriate for you. Don’t post on my talk page ever again. Haleth (talk) 05:27, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Note on PROD for Iron Lung (video game)

[edit]

You stated that WP:BEFORE came up with nothing, but the game has a full review in both Destructoid and Bloody-Disgusting, which while not a video game site, I am fairly sure is considered reliable. I didn't dePROD it because I usually consider WP:3REFS the threshold, but it could conceivably be considered notable with just those two. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 07:40, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Zxcvbnm, my exact words were "WP:BEFORE on the search engine for reliable video game sources", which indeed turned up nothing for the game save for a link to its Metacritic page. The lone Metacritic-collected review I mentioned in my PROD rationale was the one for Destructoid, which I'd assign less due weight in establishing notability for a standalone article because past community consensus have deemed it to be a situationally reliable source that is dependent on the author in question. I missed the review from Bloody Disgusting, a good quality source, although it isn't exactly a lengthy writeup. Overall, not a good look for the topic; if I must suggest an ATD solution, the page can probably be redirected to Dusk (video game), a notable video game by the same creator, and the game mentioned within one sentence there, but definitely not enough coverage to warrant a standalone page in my opinion. I do not have any qualms with a dePROD from you if you still feel that my PROD rationale is unjustified, but the fact remains that this article should not remain in mainspace as is. Either it is up for an AfD following a dePROD, or the article's contents be draftified at the earliest opportunity. Haleth (talk) 08:30, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"WP:BEFORE on the custom search engine for reliable video game sources yields no results about the game." is misleading considering that it implies to other editors that you found zero sources period, so I'd just keep that in mind. "Only found one source from Destructoid, does not fulfill WP:GNG" would be a better way of putting it.
Would not really be against redirection as while seemingly unrelated, it is also a purposely low-res, short form horror game from the same developer. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 09:23, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing misleading about my choice of words, which specifically identified the custom search engine dedicated to reliable sources for video game topics though I probably should have wikilinked it. Your insinuation that I may potentially mislead others about zero sources per se does not make sense considering that in the same paragraph I did mention that there is a single Metacritic review, which if other editors decide to fact check would discover that it is Destructoid, which will never show up on the custom search engine's results because it is not vetted by consensus as a fully reliable source. I should also point out that another editor User:TenPoundHammer endorsed the PROD before your dePROD, so I assume they had no difficulty interpreting what I meant to say. Haleth (talk) 10:08, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"A single Metacritic review" doesn't really mean a usable one. Metacritic aggregates vast amounts of unreliable sources. Mentioning that it was from Destructoid would have removed any doubt that it did get at least one reliable review. I still stand by the fact that it is misleading, though I am not necessarily insinuating that you were intending to make the article seem like deletion fodder.
TenPoundHammer recently marked an article for deletion, Concerned, that emerged as a SNOW keep, so I'm not sure their endorsement is indicative of a comprehensive WP:BEFORE check for notability.
Anyway, I am not accusing you of anything, just saying that if I didn't have a hunch and check twice it would probably just have been deleted and the description didn't help with that. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 10:28, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. It seems you deleted the categories in the article. See WP:INCOMPATIBLE, categories can stay on redirects in certain cases. As far as I know there is nothing wrong with a fully categorized game redirecting to a section discussing said game. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 10:34, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course Metacritic aggregates plenty of unreliable sources. Destructoid is not considered to be a fully reliable source by the community either so I don't understand why the lack of an explicit mention would be an issue. Editors will certainly find it useful for the writer's opinion to flesh out an article's prose, though some may take a firm view that it is not enough by itself to establish the notability of a topic unless...the prevalent consensus changes after a temperature check and people have come to accept that Destructoid is as reliable as most of the reliable sources we routinely cite.
If you insist on the inclusion of categories for a non-notable topic, one or two would be sufficient in my opinion. Haleth (talk) 10:53, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Saying that Destructoid is not fully reliable is not exactly accurate. Destructoid reviews are unquestionably reliable, it's just that the site also aggregates community content/blog posts, so when there is some other content care has to be taken to make sure it's by the actual staff. An explicit mention of a Destructoid review would definitely be indicative of some possibility of notability. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 12:30, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to say that you did an amazing job with David's article and I'm so happy to see its current state. :D Unfortunately, I got caught up with a lot of stuff to do this past month and didn't have any free time to continue working on it. Maybe in the future, I can expand some sections of the article with the sources I've archived. You're welcome and I'm glad that you like my work on the article! I do understand as I get busy from time to time with other commitments, which reduce the amount of time I spend editing on Wikipedia. Anyway, I think I've done all that I could to expand a draft which was already halfway finished, and I doubt I will touch it again after moving it to mainspace. I am primarily interested in applying the sources I found which specifically talked about the development and reception of the character. Mass Effect 3 Writing sub-section

[edit]

Hey - Thanks for adding to the ME3 Writing sub-section. There is good information there about how the writers approached romances. However, there is now more information about romance than everything else in the Writing section combined. I think that this specific section would be better served with a bit more balance. Could you perhaps trim up the two paragraphs into one tight paragraph? Ktmartell (talk) 11:38, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have done as you asked. I've tightened and trim the paragraph(s), and moved whatever detailed information that is directly relevant to the two characters in their respective articles/sections. Haleth (talk) 17:24, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New pages created for Rachel Amber and Steph Gingrich

[edit]

Hey! I've recently created articles for Rachel Amber and Steph Gingrich — and from your edits on Life is Strange-related articles such as Alex Chen — I was wondering if you'd be interested in helping both articles achieve "good article" status within six months. Would you be interested in expanding it? No pressure if not.

I'm still pretty new. So I'd appreciate the help. Thanks, KlayCax (talk) 06:34, 17 August 2022 (UTC).[reply]

Hi @KlayCax, thank you for reaching out to me. However, having perused your work with those articles, I'll just be upfront: the problem here is that neither article appears to have evidence of adequate or sufficient coverage to justify the presumption of a standalone article specifically about them. Someone has already nominated Rachel Amber for deletion, and while I technically opposed their deletion rationale, the sourcing you have cited does not justify the existence of the topic as a standalone article per the significant coverage requirement of the general notability guideline. As for Steph Gingrich, it is even worse as there is zero developmental information about how Deck Nine staff created her, as well as reception from critics and/or players which detail opinion and analysis. While it is true that article content does not determine notability of the subject , I cast a wide net for my internet searches just to be sure and the sourcing is simply not there for either character. Quite frankly, any out-of-universe discussion about them can be adequately summarized in existing mainspace articles that is part of the Life is Strange series. So my concern is not whether either article could attain "good article" status in six months, but whether they should exist to begin with.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news for your efforts and I'm sorry that your efforts haven't turned to be worthwhile, but the video game project on English Wikipedia as a whole is very strict with articles about fictional characters and topics. Almost without exceptions, only articles of characters which demonstrate evidence of out-of-universe design and development info and/or a substantial reception section (ideally both) will be tolerated by most other editors. Alex Chen has plenty of both, as well as a substantial number of industry award accolades and nominations. The current size of the readable prose for all that information is about 18kb, which is very substantial considering the fact that I purposely omitted a plot or appearances summary section. Cramming all of that into the content of True Colors would give undue weight towards the character in an article that is supposed to be about the video game as a whole. With Steph Gingrich though, one viable option is to create a standalone page for Wavelengths, the True Colors expansion she stars in. The "lesbian loneliness" one source talks about is more or less about Wavelengths in its entirety. Although in practice not every video game expansion gets its own page on Wikipedia, Metacritic has a score for the PS5 version aggregated from 8 reviews so it does look like the expansion passes GNG. As for Rachel Amber, perhaps you could focus your efforts on improving the contents of Chloe Price, since that character is a pivotal influence on Chloe's story arc? I am not actually interested in doing further work on that page or Max Caulfield and get them to GA, but they do pass Wikipedia's notability guidelines in my opinion. SC5 4Gamer source

[edit]

Hi. I just wanted to clarify something with you. Recently on Space Channel 5 you used a 4Gamer source to cite something about the Ulala Channel J mobile game. I went through the page you referenced with Google Translate and couldn't find any mention of the app. Can you give me the quote from it just to double-check that article really has anything to do with it? ProtoDrake (talk) 14:56, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ProtoDrake, it was an accidental addition. Apparently, what is cited as "<ref name=":0">" on the redirected page for Ulala's Channel J is a completely different source on Space Channel 5 itself. I've fixed it by omitting the extra source. Haleth (talk) 17:14, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Long time no see. How are you feeling? I hope you recovered from that issue we talked in Discord. I haven't created a character article in a while but I was wondering if there was GNG content from YuYu Hakusho guys since their series is quite popular, Anime News Network made a big article about them, and possible liveaction adaptation. Normally, I would work in the protagonist Yusuke first but I can't find too much. Instead, the one who seems to have a lot of more response with the author acknowledging is Kurama. Anyways, hope you enjoy Christmas and Wikipedia. Cheers. Tintor2 (talk) 21:02, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Tintor2, yes I've been recovering from some health issues, along with being busy getting my life back on track after returning to my usual country of residence. I wouldn't worry too much about whether the protagonist of said series have been subject to dedicated coverage, just follow where said coverage actually goes. So go for Kurama if there's actually something of substance to write about. Haleth (talk) 04:31, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nice that you are active again. I haven't nominated another video game character for a while but I'm kinda planning X (Mega Man) and Haseo to nominate them to GA. Had to trim the reception a lot. I also created two Attack on Titan character articles which actually wasn't that hard since they were kinda break out characters and had a lot of material focused on them. I expected you to revise Yakuza articles so I guess you didn't check the remastered games. Have you seen 2B (Nier: Automata)'s recent upgrade to GA? I think you were the one who created it. I have only been expanding stuff from her anime series. You were planning an article for 9S if I recall. When working on the anime article I found an interview with his voice actor too. Are you planning to play the Resident Evil 4 remake? Anyways, glad you are okay. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 16:39, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, what would you say to the prospect of transforming the Sapienza article from a level article to more of an individual release article? I'm not entirely sure myself - I'm working on a Hokkaido article, and I'm split. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 22:31, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cukie Gherkin: Hey there, sorry for the late reply. I've been very preoccupied with life commitments at the moment so I haven't had the time to respond to you properly.
I don't particularly like the idea of Sapienza being an individual release article to be honest. The reason is because unlike the fictionalized version of Hokkaido, Sapienza is not a real place, it's completely fictional. So there's a lot of developmental info that went into how it was conceived to begin with, whereas people who want to read more about the real Hokkaido can click on said link. And Sapienza isn't a one-off level; it's been re-used a number of times in different contexts. I know the Hokkaido map and level has also been recycled, but there's barely any coverage about that context from what I can tell from the article. So the Sapienza article serves as an individual commercial release + developmental info about a completely fictional aspect of the Hitman universe + video game level, or at least that's how I interpret it.
Hokkaido does work as a straight up individual release, but the present article seems to be very light on level content unlike Sapienza which has a ton of coverage about that aspect. Haleth (talk) 15:33, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah real talk, I haven't actually gotten to this level, so I haven't been able to actually fill it out, haha. Hope life commitments aren't too frustrating. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 15:35, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Life has been quite frustrating, yes. I've got stuff I wanted to continue to work on for Wikipedia but it keeps being postponed or pushed to the backburner.
In any event, we don't really need to maintain some kind of parity in terms of content between the articles, because I doubt there is a need to create individual standalone articles for all six of the Hitman 1 Season 1 levels. Sapienza made enough of an impact for the series to easily justify a standalone, and Hokkaido has enough level dev info. Haleth (talk) 15:40, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Aight, thank you for your perspective! - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 15:42, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

[edit]

Nice to see you making a comeback, thou again I do hope that you're fine with what we're doing right now, often we disagree on such things and even some of the old article I created were redirected for lacking any sigcov. Hoping that your life commitments has been doing well. GlatorNator () 15:46, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. It's fine to hold any established article up to scrutiny, but going WP:BLAR on articles, especially ones that were properly assessed as GA's, is poor form. Just start a discussion. Kung Fu Man's done the same to one I wrote up previously, even though it had no shortage of third party services demonstrating coverage, and I have already reverted them. Haleth (talk) 15:51, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have reverted also Chrom's notabity template since you mentioned it before that it was also notable. I do hope that you'll be reguarly editing WP back. KFM said he has goal to turn OW to Good Topic. So, he'll probably about to nominate your article Soldier: 76 to GAN soon. Regards. GlatorNator () 15:57, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. If you are really concerned about the notability of certain Final Fantasy characters, you may want to take a look at Beatrix and Freya from FFIX. Haleth (talk) 16:02, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Beatrix might have issues, though I've found additional sources for Freya. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 16:06, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's a passing comment I made because I am surprised that Vaan and Balthier is being AfD'd, whereas the entire Characters of FFIX page as well as the individual articles for Freya and Beatrix have long been problematic when it comes to cruft. Haleth (talk) 16:12, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to see you too. I didn't work in 9S but I remember that google scholars actually addressed the character, mainly because of the mental shock he suffers in the late part of the game despite being an android. Other than that, I've been trying to clean up the Mortal Kombat articles, most notably Liu Kang because it's an old GA. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 19:07, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers. Will keep that in mind about 9S. Haleth (talk) 21:29, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominating Chrom for AfD

[edit]

You can find the discussion here. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 19:17, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Much obliged for helping restore it. I was pretty sore to see it unilaterally redirected even though the discussion that occurred lacked consensus to do so. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 16:26, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. It hasn't had an AfD or merge discussion yet as far as I can tell, so I suppose a WP:BLAR isn't unreasonable. But I always knew that there was coverage specifically about the character. Would recommend that the article's content be improved significantly as soon as possible in order to justify it coming back to mainspace though. Haleth (talk) 21:17, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure ProtoDrake might have content considering he said something similar about Nier's protagonist but he is sometimes busy with other articles.Tintor2 (talk) 21:24, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see you removed the characters section of this template, as Fawful was merged and having one article in its own section is silly. But I'm curious, since Vivian should technically be in this navbox, should she be included some other way or is it fine without her? Panini! 🥪 05:15, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's fine the way it is now. Vivian is already listed as one of several characters on the now trimmed-up universe section for the Mario franchise template. My understanding is that the theme of sub template is supposed to be about "Mario role-playing games", so it is serving its purpose of mainly listing out the RPG-adjacent games within the Mario franchise. Not too sure if the last bracket should have a comprehensive list of developers and their associated companies though. My experience is that other editors didn't particularly like comprehensive listing of crew and developers on the templates for other topic areas. Haleth (talk) 12:07, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good! Panini! 🥪 13:26, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:MystraSymbol.png.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. — Ирука13 23:59, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous tip on Kris edit war

[edit]

I would like to tip that a user by the name of Widjono Wahyuni has been profusingly deleting citations regarding the Malaysian use of the kris, even though the citations are valid from resources like the Malaysian Foreign Ministry and Reuters. It is suspected that Widjono is warring on the basis of nationalism or nativism (overlapping with anti-Malaysia sentiment) as shown from inclination towards entries related to nationalistic imagery like it, Nusantara (term) et cetera. Oh, and his profile has nothing but the Indonesian flag and arms flexing emoji in it. You might need to look into that problem.
