Q&A about unprotection

[edit]

One of the functions of DumbBOT is to remove protection templates from non-protected pages. Since this function is the one that leads to more questions and complaints, I have written a FAQ about it.

Q1: Why did you unprotect page X?

A1: I didn't; the bot is not an administrator, so it cannot protect or unprotect pages;

Q2: But the history says "removing a protection template etc."!

A2: A protection template is a colored box or a small lock image at the top of the article; it does not by itself make the page protected; protection and unprotection is done via a form that looks like this, and the edit summary looks like (Unprotected Wikipedia:New admin school/Protecting/Protect: NAS unprotect test).

Q3: Who did unprotect the page, then?

A3: Most likely, the page had an expiring protection (see the "expire" field in the form above), and the expiration date has passed; it could also be that an administrator unprotected the page but they forgot to remove the tag;

Q4: How can I have the page protected again?

A4: See Wikipedia:Requests for page protection; note, however, that pages are generally not protected just because they get a couple of vandal edits; see Wikipedia:Protection policy for details;

Q5: I know the page is unprotected, but I want the protection template back on it!

A5: While there is no specific policy against that, I believe this is generally considered wrong unless there is a good reason for doing that; anyway, if there is some reason for doing that, you can do it by yourself (as the page is unprotected and can therefore be edited); add <nowiki></nowiki> after the template, on the same line, and the bot won't remove the template again; some other editor, possibly me, may remove it nevertheless

Q6: I am one other editor who wants to remove such a template nevertheless; is there a list of pages where the bot didn't remove a template because of tags <nowiki></nowiki> on the same line?

A6: Sure: User:DumbBOT/NotRemoved; note that sometimes there is a reason for a protection template being included in a non-protected page, such as showing how the template looks.

Category:Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 7 January 2010, etc.

[edit]

DumbBOT created Category:Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 7 January 2010 (and 8, and 9, and 10...) with a link to Category:Images with no fair use rationale. That category has a note saying that it should be empty, and that the correct category is Category:Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale - Eastmain (talk) 02:50, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reporting. It's fixed now, so that the subcategories that will be created from now on will have the new category. Anyway, the initial text of these can be changed, since it is in Template:Images_with_no_fair_use_rationale_subcat_starter and similar (see User:DumbBOT/CatCreate for the list). Subpage creation

[edit]

DumbBOT seems to have stopped creating and listing subpages recently, I noticed as RfD had not had subpages done since the 26th, and it appears the bot hasn't made any more subpages for anything since that date. Hope this helps, --Taelus (talk) 10:19, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what happened, but a manual run seemed to run fine. Thanks for reporting. Tizio 14:27, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PRODSUM not updating?

[edit]

Seems to have been well over 12 hours. Jclemens (talk) 21:56, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Same here. It now restarted working fine. Perhaps the problem was a misalignment between system and hardware clock (so that the computer woke up at a time different than the cron time). Thanks for reporting, anyway. Tizio 14:28, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think the new prodblp process may have broken it? I agree that it does not seem to be working. —David Eppstein (talk) 18:19, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The problem was with the way the bot saves pages, and in particular the login part. I however took the opportunity to better deal with the new prodblp template. Everything should be fine now.Tizio 15:01, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing this! —David Eppstein (talk) 05:05, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your're welcome. I guess all other functions are working fine... Tizio 13:13, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding protection templates

[edit]

Hello, could DumbBOT be programed to add protection templates to protected pages? --The High Fin Sperm Whale 01:03, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not for write-protected page, because it doesn't have admin privileges. It could do so for semi-protected and move-protected pages, but I don't think this is really worth the effort: most of these pages are protected just for a fixed amount of time, so that the problem will solve itself eventually (the case of protection templates on non-proteceted pages is different, as these pages might otherwise retail the template for a long time). Tizio 15:46, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would be a good idea to add protection templates, because it is for a fixed amount of time, it would show that the page is protected. 70.29.208.247 (talk) 03:25, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, yes, it could be useful. It's just that I do not consider it worth the time I can now afford to spend on Wikipedia. Again, the problem is, in most cases, that the protecting adiministrator adds the protection template but then forget to remove it at expiry time. The opposite case is much rarer. Tizio 10:38, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I frequently find that protected articles are not templated if they are time-limited, and sometimes if they are indefinite. Maybe it's the type of articles I view, but it seems that way to me. 70.29.208.247 (talk) 02:06, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You may then consider requesting such a bot at Wikipedia:Bot requests. Tizio 13:10, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Creating wrong categories

[edit]

DumbBOT is creating categories like Category:Wikipedia files on Wikimedia Commons as of 1 July 2010 when it should create Category:Wikipedia files with a different name on Wikimedia Commons as of 1 July 2010 instead. It also seems to be feeding a wrong date format to {{Wikipedia files with a different name on Wikimedia Commons starter}}. Derlay (talk) 22:18, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I remember, the bot should create bot categories, as they contain different objects.
PS. wait, I see that the first categories are always empty. I removed them from the creation list, then. Please report if you see any more problem like that. (As for the template, please check with the person that created them.) Tizio 15:50, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Both the Starter tempalte for "same name " and "with a different name" since a few weeks now rely on th 6th parameter, which according to your CatCreate page is the same as %D (ie. "13 July 2010"). The template does {{blabla|6={{subst:#time:Y-m-d|13 July 2010}}}}. But as you can see in this revision, it caused an error. After some trial-and-error I traced the bug to the face that DumbBOT uses underscores in the %D string (ending up as {{blabla|6={{subst:#time:Y-m-d|13_July_2010}}}}) which is an invalid date and crashes the template. Can you pass parameter 6 as the date without underscores ? If that is for some reason not possible, I'll change the templates to use the {1}, {2} and {4} parameter instead. Krinkle (talk) 20:11, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I could change the parameter, but I am afraid that could break something else. Since I'm not much around these days, I'd prefer not to change anything if not strictly necessary, so please put in place any workaround you think would solve the problem. Thanks. Tizio 10:20, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Could you at least set DumbBOT to create the "Wikipedia files with a different name on Wikimedia Commons as of..." categories? The date format issue is almost purely cosmetic; it's more important that the categories get created at all. Derlay (talk) 16:47, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I require your help in correcting Pakistani actress Zeba's wikipedia. Its wrongly given that she married only once whereas reliable sources easily prove that she married thrice. Template:Prod

[edit]

Just to let you know that I have made some changes to Template:Prod. The main difference is that the separate parameters time/day/month/year will no longer be used. These have been replaced by a single timestamp parameter. Hopefully this will not affect the bot's operation. — Martin (MSGJ . talk) 21:15, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I renamed this template yesterday and the bot does not seem to be picking up the new entries. (They are listed under "failed to parse".) Please could you update the bot so that it recognises the new names (Template:Proposed deletion and Template:Proposed deletion/dated). Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience. — Martin (MSGJ . talk) 12:39, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is VERY DEFINITELY ba-roken. Can we roll back the changes to the PROD template and re-subst so we can get this working again? Jclemens (talk) 21:36, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Right, this is a true mess for anyone dealing with these articles. As no attention has been paid to this, I shall revert them myself tomorrow until they can be fixed. DGG ( talk ) 11:01, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, everybody: due to some personal problems I've not been able to take care of all this as I should. I hope I can fix at least the more urgent problems next week. For the rest, I'm pretty sure I'll have the necessary time in September. Tizio 16:35, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The problem should be fixed now. There are a couple of templates that remain in the "failed to parse" section, but I do not think they are really a problem. What I did was to convert, during processing of the pages, the new template into the old one, so that both should be dealt with correctly by the bot. Please report if you see any problem with the list. Tizio 10:44, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I noticed the bot stopped running on September 7. Anyone have any idea why that is? — ξxplicit 02:04, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request

[edit]

Would it be a bother to ask DumbBOT to create the categories for Category:Wikipedia files with no copyright tag and Category:Wikipedia files with a different name on Wikimedia Commons? I've been creating these manually for a while now, and since the bot already creates all the other maintenance categories at Template:CSD/Subcategories, I thought it would make sense if created all of them, instead of most. ξxplicit 19:44, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bot stopped Category creations

[edit]

Hello. It appears that the bot stoppped creating it's daily categories about 4 days ago, with the last creations being for Nov 2 categories. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&limit=100&contribs=user&target=DumbBOT&namespace=14 for detail. --After Midnight 0001 21:49, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, indeed. The computer where the bot runs crashed on Friday. Fortunatly, the bot is programmed to create cats for three days in advance, so the effect of the crash on cat creation was limited. I have made some changes in the hardware configuration to try to avoid a new crash. Tizio 19:26, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother, but did it crash again? It appears that the bot has not had any edits for approx 36 hours. --After Midnight 0001 01:25, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it did it again. As usual, more or less at worst possibile time. Anyway, category creation is always done with an advance of three days at least. The most severe problem is the prod summary, which should be as up-to-date as possibile. I hope to solve the problem (in some way) by the end of the week. Tizio 13:14, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SpeedyMaintanceCat

[edit]

Can DumbBot add {{SpeedyMaintanceCat}} to all of the temporary CSD cats it creates? For some reason, it's only doing it with commons images, but it would be helpful for disputed fair use, replaceable fair use, orphaned fair use, fair use w/o rationale, files needing editor assistance, files with no source, files with no copyright, and prods. Among other reasons, it prefills the field when clicking the "delete" tab. :) Magog the Ogre (talk) 03:57, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, tried on Template:Wikipedia files with unknown copyright status subcategory starter. If it works fine, I'll add it to the other substarter templates tomorrow. Tizio 18:33, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added it to most of the cats.Tizio 11:49, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Your bot reported an incomplete action with the creation of this AfD. I see this problem has been reported before. This is most likely a malfunction of Twinkle. perhaps you could take this up with the Twinke people as not every editor knows much about bots and template programming. Thanks.--Kudpung (talk) 02:45, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This could be, but I don't know if fixing that would be worth the effort. I mean, as far as I can see the problem (if it a Twinkle problem) is limited to very few cases, I don't know if fixing is worth the effort, given that these cases will be taken care by DumbBOT. Just curious if DumbBOT is also able to handle move-protected tags, as well? And, if not, would it be difficult to implement? In this diff, DumbBOT correctly removed {{pp-semi-blp}} tag, however it left a {{pp-move-indef}}. I checked the logs and the page is not (nor has it ever been) move-protected. :) Avicennasis @ 18:24, 3 Adar I 5771 / 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Incorrectly Formatted AfD Header

[edit]

I know that the malformed AfD header where the {{subst:FULLPAGENAME}} is not actually substed has been reported before, but I noticed that the problem always occurs when the page name has a '_' (underscore) in it. Bot at CP

[edit]

Hello, we are having problems with bots at WP:CP. VWBot has been down and Zorglbot is blocked (which usually creates CP listings). In addition, DumbBOT used to create the page for the day's new listing. It has to be done manually now [1]. Is there a reason it stopped? Also, could your bot create the new entry page each day, like Zorglbot did? See example at history bottom here. Thanks for the help.--NortyNort (Holla) 12:33, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Using DumbBOT for DYK?

[edit]

Hi Tizio,

WP:DYK recently adopted a system similar to AfD, whereby new nominations are created on subpages and those subpages are then transcluded at a main page T:TDYK. I was wondering if DumbBOT could do a similar task there as I think it does now for AfDs: scanning for subpages that have been created and not yet transcluded.

The only big difference between the DYK and AFD systems I'm aware of is that at DYK it's not so straightforward to decide which section (i.e., which date) a nomination subpage should be transcluded under, and often requires a human touch; thus, rather than transcluding the page itself, it would be sufficient if DumbBOT left a template message to the nominator (the creator of the subpage) explaining that s/he needs to transclude the page. If this is possible, I could draft the message for you and then you could feed it to the robot.

Anyway, I don't know if it's easy or difficult to get the bot to do this. I was hoping it might be trivial since the bot already does it (I think) at AfD. But if it would actually be a big pain to set up, then don't feel obligated to do it; it's not something that we need urgently.

Best, rʨanaɢ (talk) 18:31, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I can't do this now, and the afd function of the bot is actually not fully automated. What you are asking for is however a lot simpler, so I could give it a try when I can. Send me another email in the middle of September (provided you didn't find another bot to do that in the meantime). Tizio 00:50, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. There is another guy who does a lot of bot tasks for DYK so I'll check with him and see if he can do it easily--I just figured I'd check here first before asking someone else to reinvent the wheel. If he can, you might be off the hook ;). If not, I'll hit you up in September. Best, rʨanaɢ (talk) 05:47, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

User:DumbBOT/ProdSummary doesn't appear to have been updated for the past five days or so (since Aug. 28). I'm guessing this is related to the http/https switchover; that seems to have broken a lot of bots. —David Eppstein (talk) 03:55, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Until they adapt. Then, Wiki has a choice to change certs as the bot is adapted or find a solution. Six of one, half dozen of the other for neophytes, fatality for the initiated. Or, ignore it whilst the train runs over us all. No matter what, it's major suckage all around.Wzrd1 (talk) 06:00, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A solution to this is essential, or the only possible way to go might be to suspend the prod process, as it can not be intelligently used without a bot such as this. DGG ( talk ) 18:03, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Incomplete removal

[edit]

Hi, with this edit, DumbBOT correctly removed the {{pp-protected}} but it didn't remove the {{pp-move-indef}} which was similarly inapplicable - the page has never been protected either for editing or moving. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:01, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A request

[edit]

Hi, could I ask you not to remove the protected template from User:SlimVirgin/FGM? I'm working on drafts there that I add to Female genital mutilation. It's a very minor issue, but having the template removed means I have to keep remembering to add it, or make it invisible/visible, so it adds to the nuisance factor. Having the template on a user subpage has no effect on anything (that I know of), so I'm hoping you can leave it while I work on the drafts. I'll remove it once I've got a completed draft in place. I've also left this message on User talk:Tizio. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 16:13, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Admin dashboards

[edit]

What's on the admin dashboard pages that makes them end up at User:DumbBOT/NotRemoved? I can't find any incorrect protection templates or categories transcluded anywhere in them. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:15, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That page was listed a couple of days ago, but I didn't had time to check it. Anyway, I see the problem is moot now.Tizio 16:35, 29 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The same issue has now arisen on Wikipedia:Template messages/Maintenance. The page isn't in any incorrect categories, but it's still getting listed. Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:46, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The bot doesn't trust categories, it checks the pages that transclude the protection templates. Wikipedia:Template messages/Maintenance does. I agree this page shouldn't be considered as "having an incorrect protection template", yet User:DumbBOT/NotRemoved is mostly a log page of the bot run. As such, it should be derived from the bot internal data as simply as possible. Tizio 15:27, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If that's the case, why's it gone now? [2] Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:46, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Page listed under NotRemoved even though it was removed

[edit]

DumbBOT removed the protection template from Bad Girls Club (season 12), but it listed it at User:DumbBOT/NotRemoved anyway. It did the same thing for most of the other edits in that run. Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:00, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reporting. I did some tests this week, the problem may be due to this. I suspect two instances of the bot run at more or less the same time, and the second one didn't find anything to remove so it listed all the pages. I don't this this will occur again, as the problem was generated from a manual run of the bot. Tizio 16:33, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your upload of File:ArbComm2006History.png or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. Issues

[edit]

Okay, not sure where to begin:

1. Okay, let me first thank you for your work in making Wikipedia better. Please don't take the following personally.
2. I suggest you archive this talk page. It is very long!
3. Why do you have DumbBOT unprotect pages? Let "Lowercase Sigmabot" handle unprotecting duties, it already does protecting duties. Makes for a better page history symmetry!
4. Please change the message, it is probably the cause for a lot of confusion: it currently says "removing a protection template from a non-protected page". Either the message or the info page should probably - as the very first thing - say "the bot probably only removed protection templates from a page whose protection recently auto-expired, or from a page recently made unprotected".
5. Currently your Q&A is in three places: On DumbBOT's user page, here on the talk page, and on the info link. I think that is two places too many.
CapnZapp (talk) 14:27, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

3. DumbBOT doesn't unprotect pages. It removes the templates from pages that are already unprotected.
4. Isn't that kind of obvious? That seems to make it more wordy without adding any more information.
Jackmcbarn (talk) 14:40, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

DumbBOT's services on hiwkipedia

Hey there! I was wondering if User:DumbBOT could lend its services to hiwiki. Most of the pp templates here have been imported from enwiki, and hence, we wouldn't require any but (maybe) minor changes in your present working code. Request to make a minor change of how DumbBOT creates the RFD subpages

[edit]

Tizio, I have a request for a minor change to be added to the way that the Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion pages are created. I would like the page creations to also include a link to itself built into the section header the bot creates on the page that contains the day's date. Here's the story why:

With the help of another editor, I recently performed edits onto the highly-used RFD template {{Rfd2}} that resulted in potentially complicating the way which non-tech savvy administrators close these discussions. You probably know this, but each substitution or transition of {{Rfd2}} contains a series of links that can be clicked to either auto generate a "keep" result, or direct the administrator to the delete page to delete the redirect. Well, for the links, in this edit, I made it so that the links (including the new "retarget" link) no longer substituted the current name of the page when it was substituted, but rather leave the {{FULLPAGENAME}} function live and not transcluded; this was done so that if by chance the discussion is relisted, the edit notices on these links will automatically display the new page instead of the previous page which the discussion was posted. However, doing this came with the cost of no longer being able to click these links directly from the Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion page since doing so would break the edit notices since {{FULLPAGENAME}} would the return that page name instead of the full name of the subpage.

...And this is the reason I'm requesting this change with how DumbBOT creates the RFD pages. Having a circular link in the section header (probably by making DumbBOT do something like replacing how it creates section headers from ===MONTH DAY=== to ===[[{{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}|MONTH DAY]]===) will be helpful for editors/administrators trying to close discussions who have trouble finding subpages. (Also, pinging Wbm1058 who designed the way to unlink {{Rfd2}}'s links when transcluded on WP:RFD directly, and pinging Cyberpower678 who once upon a time volunteered to have a bot who would pick up the task of creating WP:RFD subpages in the event DumbBOT went down.) Steel1943 (talk) 00:23, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I volunteered? Can you link me to that, because I don't remember. If I offered, then of course the offer still holds, but is DUMBbot down?--cyberpowerChat:Online 00:45, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This change would be really straighforward to do, but I see that Steel1943 is now retired from Wikipedia. Can someone confirm that the RfD subpage creation still needs this change?Tizio 18:26, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bots

[edit]

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Incorrect category creations

[edit]

This bot is incorrectly taking some categories by misposting some templates, see Category:Wikipedia files with no copyright tag as of 5 April 2016 and Category:Wikipedia files with no copyright tag as of 6 April 2016 for examples. It seems to be limited to the "files with no copyright tag" categories. It looks like the bot creator is no longer active but perhaps another editor can help resolve this problem. Liz Read! Hi! DumbBot seems to be in a muddle. It's started (resumed?) adding CorenSearchBot results to the daily copyvio listings at WP:CP, which would be useful if CorenSearchBot was running (it isn't). But DumbBot is mistakenly changing the date of the listing when it edits, as for example here, and that's a nuisance. Could I ask you to either fix that, or ask the bot to stop this task? While I'm here, may I ask if your bot could:

That would be most helpful. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 07:42, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated {{Prod blp/dated}} to use the same syntax as {{Proposed deletion/dated}} (i.e. timestamp, no month day year). This may be affecting the bot. — Train2104 (t  o c) 19:39, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This will simplify parsing, after the article previously tagged are all deleted or untagged. For the moment, the bot parses both ways of tagging. The large number of "date mismatch" articles is due to the changes in the template, I believe this cannot be avoided, but articles tagged after the change will not have this problem. DumbBOTs categories

[edit]

Hi, DumbBOT creates the empty sub-cats of Category:Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files a few days in advance. Could I suggest that it adds the magic word __NOGALLERY__ to the end of the text it puts in - like I have done to Category:Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files as of 11 September 2017? We are only supposed to show non-free images in articles, other non-free cats already have the magic word installed e.g. Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests. Thanks Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:29, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ronhjones, see WP:NFEXMP. Categories in Category:Wikipedia non-free content criteria exemptions are exempted from WP:NFCC#9. The main Category:Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files category is exempted, so it seems that the intention is that F5 candidates are to be shown on category pages. Maybe the exemption category should have been added to the dated categories instead of the main category. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:03, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bot creating maintenance categories after date has expired

[edit]

Please see Category:Wikipedia files with a different name on Wikimedia Commons as of 11 November 2017, created moments after I deleted it as the day had passed and it was empty. replace the non edit on Miss Global's page please

Hi. You removed a feature on a page to no longer have a lock on it. It is our business wikipedia page. Miss Global. Unfortunately, a former, seasonal employee has been posting over and over that she is the founder and CEO of the company. She had written some very hurtful lies about the company owner Van Pham. You can view the lies in the posts under "Women of pageant unite" on January 14th and 15th. She also has been putting that our current queen was fired. That is also not true. She is upset about her employment and went on a mission to hurt the owner in any way. She has been creating accounts, posting, then deleting the account and leaving the incorrect and hurtful information. Can you please put bock the lock on the page to the current info as of your last post on it showing Van Pham as creator. Also not not allow the text of Barbara Vitorelli being dismissed or fired. This has hurt her as well. You can view all correct info on our pageant website www.missglobal.com or email us through the website or to me specifically at mgoleader@gmail.com There is a court lawsuit in process and there was an injunction put in place on 12/14/2018. This means she can no longer associate with Mis Global in any way. Still she continues to make fake accounts. Putting a freeze on the page would help tremendously. This template will not be visible on pages that are not protected". In that case, why does this bot remove it? In cases where vandalism is frequent and the page needs re-protecting, this means that someone has to re-add the template. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:54, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DumbBOT normally transcludes the log subpages at the WP:RFD page. This has not happened yet today, so another user has done that manually. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 10:03, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Arabeyes up for deletion

[edit]

You previously participated in the AFD for this article. WP:Link rot is not a reason to delete. Open source publisher trying to aid Arab language users with their computers etc. It was established in early 2001 by a number of Arab Linux enthusiasts. Trying to find sources is hampered by the presumed language of sources. It is a systemic bias in Wikipedia. Arabic language speakers needed. 7&6=thirteen () 16:34, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Strange edit to ProdSummary page

[edit]

Hello, Tizio,

DumbBOT made a strange update right here that removed all formatting from this page. It is really odd and even though I know you aren't really active on the project right now, I hope you, or a friendly talk page stalker, can look into this so the page will continue to update without any problems. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 18:51, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The page Eliza Dickson has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
