On the article for John Brown, you changed the lead sentence from "John Brown (May 9, 1800 – December 2, 1859) was a prominent leader in the American abolitionist movement in the decades preceding the Civil War." to "John Brown (May 9, 1800 – December 2, 1859) was an American evangelist who was a prominent leader in the American abolitionist movement in the decades preceding the Civil War." I only changed the lead sentence based on the "evangelical Christian" description of his beliefs, and mainly from this source: https://abolitionist-john-brown.blogspot.com/2010/11/q-what-were-john-browns-beliefs-my.html

Although I also did add-in the generic "evangelist" to make the lead sentence more in-line with historical figures (i.e. "was an American [solider, abolitionist, minister, politician]...") 9mm.trilla (talk) 21:26, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I feel like the word "evangelist" has a notably different connotation (at least in the modern vernacular) than "evangelical [Christian]." Additionally, based on "As in the body of the article itself, the emphasis given to material in the lead should roughly reflect its importance to the topic..." (MOS:LEAD), I think that that should not be the first identifier for him. In my opinion, it is better formatted with the information about his religiosity being introduced in the second paragraph. Check the John Brown (abolitionist) page for update on this. If you want to do the "[person] was a [nationality] [profession] who [did something]" format for the page, I think that it would be better to pick something more accurate and relevant than evangelist. The opening of the lead should read "American former college football coach", not "former American college football coach", as one's nationality doesn't retire!
