History
After Canal 9 was closed on July 14, 2016, the Valencian Parliament approved with 64 votes for -PSPV-PSOE, Compromís, Podemos and Ciudadanos- and 26 abstentions -PPCV- the law proposal for the opening of the Valencian Media Corporation. The law establishes that this entity must have three channels, although it does not specify neither the names nor the date of the beginning of the screening. For its part, the tender for the election of the brand and the corporative image opened on January 31, 2017, providing the winner of the chosen proposal with an amount of money of €50 000. Later, on Mars 8, 2017, the Valencian Media Corporation made the name of their first channel television public. Said name, thought up by the Aftershare agency -of which the publicist Risto Mejide is a member- was selected between 82 proposals. According to the Valencian Government, of which the entity of the Corporation depends on, the name À punt was chosen for three reasons: in the first place, the letter "A" appears in the names of the three provinces of the Valencian Community: Castellón, Alicante and Valencia; in the second place, the letter "A" is the first one of the alphabet, "it is the beginning, a start from scratch, the opening of something new", and given that "the approach of the numbers has been used up, the first letter has been chosen", and finally, the acute accent is added, the tonic à in Catalan, a very typical sign of the Catalan language.
