OUT IN THE OPEN

From 2009 onwards I edited the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_journalists_killed_in_Russia (since 1993), in both English and Russian, and made additions to several pages devoted to particular Russian journalists — Anna Politkovskaya, Dmitry Kholodov and Natalya Estemirova, perhaps (I cannot remember now).

Now I have discarded the pseudonyms I used in that work (Norvic and Voronov) and will write under my own name from now on. It seems more honest to do so, especially when working on the text of A Chronicle of Current Events and on individual entries for some of those associated with it, e.g. Tatyana Velikanova. I have also revised, expanded and corrected the entry for Vladimir Bukovsky under my own name, since I have just completed translating his major book Judgment in Moscow (2nd editon, 2016).

My work is as a researcher and a translator from Russian. This necessarily requires knowledge, academic and practical, about Russia. It also involves the more general skills of editing and refining a text so that it speaks clearly and economically to the reader. I have employed all these skills in revising and clarifying texts in Wikipedia, while striving to back up my statements with accessible and reliable sources.
