Because it is the Great Wikipedia Dramaout, I am going to start this article. Before I begin, let me say that I'm not sure yet that the subject is notable, although I do believe so. I don't often start articles, so I'd appreciate help with things like putting in the appropriate stub tags and so on as I (we? I hope others will help me) go along.

I chose this subject because a friend of mine posted this amusing picture to twitpic. It piqued my interest: who made this record? Who is Ann Corio? Who is Sonny Lester? I did a search and quickly found information about Sonny Lester, but not in Wikipedia. So, here we go. Some starting references:

Well, that's a start.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 21:54, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That last source is just a repeat of the allmusic bio. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 22:14, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You can look through old Billboard magazines with Google Books. Here are a couple of items I found about Lester: [1], [2]. There might be more out there. Zagalejo^^^ 06:16, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some very brief reviews of How to Strip For Your Husband, Vols. 1 & 2: [3], [4] There was also some sort of compilation based on the albums released in the 1990s: [5] Zagalejo^^^ 06:25, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a book that briefly discusses How to Strip for Your Husband in the context of related trends in the 1960s.[6]. Calliopejen1 (talk) 17:05, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, we do have an article on Ann Corio. Zagalejo^^^ 06:27, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a great start to an article, but the Boca Raton Historical Society? Really? Please tell me we can find better use of his work than that! It seems like we're reaching if that's the best we can do... --Jayron32.talk.say no to drama 17:42, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think Kohs is just screwing around to make a point. He's too smart to sincerely think that is important.
But anyway, there was an interview with Lester in the New York Times in 1993. I can only get an abstract of it with ProQuest, but perhaps someone (Jimbo?) can try to track it down. Here's the info:
I'm on it. I'm going to be speaking at the New York Times on Friday. I'll ask a friend if they can hunt it down for me. :)--Jimbo Wales (talk) 21:54, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I found the following on NewsBank. Is any of it worth using?

"SONNY LESTER AND HIS ORCHESTRA. Music to Keep Your Husband Happy. EMI 5 39788-2 - With the lounge-music revival in full flow, the band-leader Sonny Lester 's two-in-one package from the early 1960s should get a sympathetic hearing. How to Strip for Your Husband features coy boudoir tips from the striptease queen Ann Corio (ask your father), and is suitably heavy on the bump and grind. How to Belly Dance for Your Husband delivers the sort of exotica you'd expect if Cecil B DeMille had reshot Samson and Delilah for the blue-movie market. Kitsch with a smile on its face."

1993 New York Times article and other sources

[edit]

As you may have guessed from my additions, I did manage to get a copy of the New York Times interview from 1993 as a pdf. Let me know if you want to look at it.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 14:10, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that! I might like to take a look at it later. Zagalejo^^^ 18:54, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grammy

[edit]

The New York Times article states that Lester won a Grammy for Jazz for a Sunday Afternoon, but the album is not listed in the official Grammy site's database of winners. This site simply says that Lester was nominated for the album. The album is also listed here as a nominee (but not the winner) for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance - Small Group or Soloist with Small Group.

Would either of those two last links count as a reliable source? Zagalejo^^^ 05:44, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
