Not a Niuweidao image
[edit]I've checked the image in this article, and it's not the sword it purports to show. The sword shown is a Liu Ye Dao or Liuyedao ('Willow leaf sabre'), a different type of single-edged dao. Though they may have looked similar, there is currently no image of a Niuweidao sword in Wikimedia Commons. How to proceed ? Should the image be moved to the Liuyedao article, just in case ? --ZemplinTemplar (talk) 14:32, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
- Have you read the descriptions of the two types of sword? This image doesn't match how a liuyedao is described at all. It has a broad blade that flares outward, like a niuweidao. The image is mistitled, that's all. Actually, I don't think we should be using these amateur illustrations anyway. Since the Metropolitan Museum made a bunch of their imagery public domain recently, I can upload some of those as examplars of each type of sword. --diff (talk) 21:15, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
- The liuyedao article has now been updated with a representative antique example from the Met. I wasn't able to find a good PD image of a niuweidao (the closest I've found was a proto-niuweidao with less distinctive characteristics), so the illustration will have to do. I did however request that the image and its derivatives be renamed to avoid confusion, which has been done. --diff (talk) 22:21, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
