Signature

[edit]

Clarification was requested for the usage of "signature" in describing this restaurant. Lookup "signature" (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/signature) It's the 5th definition. e.g. "signature move". In this case, the Montage is one of the things by which Portland is known. Thus the montage is a Portland signature, in this case a signature restaurant. Support? Look at the quote from the second reference "Some people have moved to Portland just to eat here more often.". I think that makes the case-- it's just good descriptive English. I'm not sure how to annotate basic words that should be known, but can we remove the clarification tag now? Oh, and that sounded snippy. I'm sorry about that. Anyone who edits noob contributors like myself should be appreciated. I really do appreciate those looking it over. Iamhove (talk) 20:00, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The reason I tagged it after I had already removed the word once is that it's meaningless tourism-speak and doesn't have a place in an encyclopedia. It sounds promotional and it's POV to have it in the first sentence. If it's important to have the word "signature" in the article, it should be rewritten in a later sentence--something like "according to so-and-so and this-other-guy, Montage is one of Portland's signature restaurants because blahblahblah and blahblahblah.[cite]" The first sentence should simply say that Montage is a restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Terms like "quirky" and "signature" are subjective and encyclopedias are supposed to be objective. We aren't a travel guide. Also, I consulted with a friend in the industry who knows the scene and he suggested that the place is marginally notable, but emphasis should be put on its role in the Portland music scene, and for being an early entry into the inner eastside. He also said "Now that the Church of Elvis and the Satyricon are gone, Montage is one of those cultural markers and institutions, like Voodoo Donut." Find some reliable sources for that and the notability won't be a problem anymore either. Valfontis (talk) 05:15, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mystique?

[edit]

By the way, they tried an outpost in Eugene: 1999 Register-Guard story, it was renamed Mystique, don't know if they still owned it then (Eugene Weekly), it didn't last long per these comments. Valfontis (talk) 05:59, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was bought out soon after opening (Old restaurant review site). Valfontis (talk) 06:05, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
